Well yes it`s only lines ..but a very god composion , really like this with the diagonal lines, shadows and color..
Good work here.
manickavelu (velu) said 1 year ago:
is that the shadow of your head in the shot? was that intentional.
love this image! You just got added to my contacts :)
Its-Only-Lines (Kevin Button) said 1 year ago:
I must admit that I didn't notice the shadow at the bottom until the first comment here.
It was probably the camara, as this grating had 25mm openings, so I was very low and very close.
Before anyone asks it's not sugar coated. :)

You got a great angle on this. Nicely done.

not sure if this image fits the "out my window" theme .. but i really like it! I think the blown highlights sort of work to give that extra little contrast.
nice!
pfeel (Phil Verges) said 1 year ago:
Thanks, velu.
At first I hesitated to upload this image, but when I read the theme description and saw "...or anything that frames the picture in the picture" I thought it should be fine.

Nice loophole you found there. ;) I love the mood and the contrasts.

This is quite similar to the image I post, which wasn't received well. I like this though, and it speaks to me of solitude more than the images with people in them, which by there very nature defy the idea of being alone. I like the atmosphere and the contrast of the white bouy. Very nice!
adevrx (dev) said 1 year ago:
Thanks for your supportive comment. I think solitude as a feeling of centered, serene aloneness - not loneliness. It seems that the feeling can be portrayed with or without people, but with a person in the image, how do you know what he/she is experiencing?
kufever (Yvette) said 1 year ago:
I very much like the fact that the horizon line disappears. Lovely.

The eye concentrates on the woman in the foreground, it would be better if the boy on the right was more faded.

This is a really neat picture. I like so many things about it. The train/subway station looks fascinating, and the blur of people moving is great. I like that it looks like there is a duplication of what you are doing going on. It looks like the girl in the bottom right corner is taking a camera phone picture of the guy beside the stationary (and in focus) lady. It's like some parallel world going on.
The highlights on the floor are blown out, which I'm sure you know. They would require a bit of work to get right. You'd probably have had to take 2 exposures and then done some blending in Photoshop. Or processed the Raw image twice.
The biggest thing for me with this image is I don't think it's suitable for this theme. But I am fully willing to concede that my idea of solitude goes against the majority, because I don't think pictures depicting solitude should contain people. So I really don't think they should contain a whole building full of people! But I do get the meaning you were going for I think. Alone in a sea of people? And I do like the image overall.
bioLarzen (In retreat) added a critique 1 year ago:
I don't know, for me this is not really solitude... and not because there are people around, but much more because of her expression. It doesn't reflect solitude for me.
But it's a great idea and a great photo.

i like the feel of this photo-to me it has the feel of the mysterious-and the girl looks like she is the only one that is not a ghost! well done

This might have fit better in the Out My Window topic. I am having trouble with the focus of this image. There is so much going on with the different lights and colors inside the building that it detracts from the overall image. If the focus of the image is indeed the window and view of the tree I think you could have formed a tighter composition that eliminates the colors of the wall.
I hope you will not mind me saying that I visited your website and saw many beautiful images. I don't think this one is your best work.
bioLarzen (In retreat) added a critique 1 year ago:
I agree with the above: this one does not fit this theme too much. If I look at it, it's not the lights and shadows that catch my eyes.
Otherwise I like it.

hi uncommondepth! I *really* appreciate this comment. I try not to post only my best images on Vazaar. I like to see what people see in my images, especially the ones I don't particularly like that much.
I really like the composition in this one. But I agree the focus on the tree is a little troubling. I'll take your advice & see how it looks if I crop it further (it is already cropped a little from the original).
Again, thanks for the comment. Cheers!

Excellent. I have no idea how this is done. Was he stood really still or is it a combination of multiple exposures?
CraigMartin (Craig Martin) said 1 year ago:
Thanks for the comment. It is just a longish exposure (I can't recall how long, but probably 2 sec or so), and the two in the middle are standing still. I highligted them by desaturating everything else.
NobodySpecial (Michael) said 1 year ago:
Really nicely done.....captures the frenetic nature of modern life.
codystanley (Cody Stanley) said 1 year ago:
Very well done,
Almost like a 'Where's Waldo' but instead of a goofy scarved character you find a perfect expression of the topic.
Neat.

Does the sign have some sort of significance, that I'm missing? The flippancy of its message ruins this image imho. The soft focus also draws attention to the sign, whereas normally I may have not really paid it much head.
doilyboy (Martin Grey Gottlieb) said 1 year ago:
Hey, thanks Andrew for the comment. Never thought of that. The sign has no significance, unless you plan on fishing. It's just a person in solitude caught in a moment on a pier.
BodhiBlink (Tom Bodhi Reeves) said 1 year ago:
I like it with the sign in combination with the woman...I know many fellows who go "fishing" for ladies, and since she's on the other side of the sign, she's available! so much meaning... ;)

manickavelu (velu) added a critique 1 year ago:
nice tone. i would've liked the background to be more out of focus (wider aperture?)
inophoto (Jamie Adams) added a critique 1 year ago:
I dunno. The theme description says: '..shots that really bring out the unique character of the subject'. I'm sure he's got a cracking smile amd it might have helped the image jump to life.
For me, the focus of the image is on his eyes. The flash has darkened these and this lessens the appeal of the shot. A portrait in natural light - near a window perhaps would really do him justice.
