Nice vivid colours and composition. Wish it was sharper and maybe with a bit more contrast.

I like the color here, but wish there was a sharper focus on the foreground.
Laurie (Laurie) added a critique 1 year ago:
Nice composition but I do wish there was a bit more focus on her face. The DOF is a bit shallow.
Laurie (Laurie) added a critique 1 year ago:
I meant to say bit too shallow, since the theme is shallow DOF but I would like the eye in focus, sorry if that was unclear.
bslomovic (Brant Slomovic) added a critique 1 year ago:
I agree with those above. There doesnt seem to be a part of this image that is in sharp/crisp focus.

This is nicely done. I don't see any fault with it. The lighting is good, tones are nice and the composition is well done. Good DOF too.
MomentsinTime (Pete Brennan) added a critique 1 year ago:
Very nice and I agree with Laurie that there is not much to fault on this one. If I was to nit-pick I wonder if it would be better just to black out the light stuff behind his ear.

The expression on her face is strong and I like that her hair blends with the background. I probably would have cropped out the lower part of the image and would have opted for her looking at the camera, if possible.

so much flash..
Laurie (Laurie) added a critique 1 year ago:
Is that you? I'm confused a little...This is a self portrait theme, "Self Portraits with Edge" and your name is Michael. I know there is a woman actor whose name is Michael. So I am sorry if you that is you and I assumed you to be a man.
If it's not you then it's not really within the theme. Otherwise the only thing I am not sure about is the lighting. It is a bit harsh, but the attitude seems to fit the lighting, so I think it actually works.

Thank You All for the comments!
@jselligman: I liked her expression too, but the situation was at a dance event and I was shooting with my 50mm f1.4 without flash. So I had to use my internal flash which is not that good.. second problem, I did not get the attention of the girl.
@xLeave: yes tooooo much! I think thats what you mean? ;)
@laurie: no it's not me.. was that supposed to be me? I'm sorri. I saw some different photographs with other people then the makers of it in the same portait theme.. maybe thats why I have submitted this one.. but neverthless thanks for you're comment!! :)
ArneG (Arne Gulstene) added a critique 1 year ago:
Perhaps a tighter crop on the face and find some way to diffuse the flash shadow?

Plus none of the clouds are blown out... great exposure. Is this with the 5D?
Flatline (Iron Flatline) said 2 years ago:
Yes, 5D indeed.
This shot is one of the hard lessons one learns in the conversion to digital. This was "just a snapshot" of my wife and kids going for a walk, so I processed the RAW file. I paid attention to the clouds, but lost all detail of my family - whoa re wearing bright rubber boots, and having a great time. I didn't bother going through additional processing to capture those details, because I have at least twenty other shots from that day.
I saved it as a nice JPG file.
Then I deleted the RAW files, figuring for family snaps all I need are some JPGs.
Now it has become one of my favorite shots, and I can never go back to recapture the detail that was lost when I saved as JPG and discarded the RAW data.
Lesson learned. Always shoot RAW, never discard the file.
I will always consider this one of those perfect shots that got away, even though it was in the can at one point.

I really like this image, as well. It has a powerful presence.
I've done the same -- thrown away the original files -- then kicked myself for doing it. Live and learn, eh? :-)
lbstone (Brandon Stone) said 1 year ago:
Hey, cool... finally got featured!
Flatline (Iron Flatline) said 1 year ago:
LOL, yeah, that was a bit of a double-take for me as well. I just got back to the US today, and hadn't really checked Vazaar in weeks. I had to come back and see which shot. I'm 2 for 2, I guess success and fame are just a question of time.
I had that very same dream last night - :)
Very ethereal feeling to this and great saturated colours without being overdone. But where is the rabbit?
