The bottom half/two-thirds is dark (maybe you were going for more silhoutte?) but I like the glow and colors you've gotten from the sun setting.

This is a very nice shot. The colors are in the rusty fence and the redish dirt. I love the filtered sunlight, as if the rain is about to fall but the sun won't give up just yet. My only complaint is that this doesn't say Industrial to me at all. Just beautiful fence. :o)

kyla (Kyla) added a critique 1 year ago:

Unfortunately I agree with Kim- and I am not a huge stickler for what does this theme constitute- and I am quite sure I picked it over others that were more industrial, but that said, if there is a critique to be made it is that it does not say industrial. Like the cropping and colours are great.

stevecherry (Steve Cherry) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like this shot too - colors, textures are very nice - I'd like to see a bit more of the gates, but that might take away from the winding road a bit. Perhaps a horizontal crop?

Lighting on this is not the best, for such a good photographer as yourself. Anyway how about a photo of someone else for a change, Vernon....lol.

VernonTrent (Vernon Trent) said 1 year ago:

@psychodudu
what is wrong on the lightning?
it's backlight technique. little bit different as the "standard" :-)

kadenajack (Jack) added a critique 1 year ago:

This shot is hilarious. Great find.

I don't mind the color/B&W mix. In fact I think it helps to draw your eye to our poor bear behind bars. I think my best advice would have been to step to the right and lose that street sign. Cropping it out is OK too, but I think the full window area makes this a more interesting shot.

ArneG (Arne Gulstene) added a critique 1 year ago:

Sorry - but this just does not do much for me. I'm generally not a fan of cut-outs and this is a good example. The photo is poorly composed and the sign is a serious distraction. This is a snapshot.

That said the subject matter itself is rather funny.

Perhaps trying this as a full colour with a stronger contrast and deeper saturation of the colours present would be interesting to try. As presented the entire image is too washed...

bioLarzen (In retreat) said 1 year ago:

Thanx for the comments everyone.

I myself am not a great fan of b&w/color mix, but here I thought it might work - to bring out the contrast between the cruel world and poor little Pooh.

As for the sign, you're right, it would be much better without it. I tried a cropped version, but missed the decayed wall part at the bottom too much. Maybe I shouldn't have? :)

Anyway, thank you all.

agme (Dmitry Antipov) added a critique 1 year ago:

too central and boring

Beautiful black and white photo. I think if the bottom was cropped out more it would make for a stronger image.

Nice picture, but I don't see how DOF adds something to it, imho :)

I'd have to agree, the dof is shallow. It's very difficult to tell exactly what you're looking at.

Alick (Alexander Kopylov) added a critique 1 year ago:

It seems to me that extremely shallow DOF is the main raisin of this shot. I like it.
Sorry for my english

owenhaberf (Owen Haberfield) said 1 year ago:

Thanks guys. It's not a bug or a leaf, but a rose hip. I think the most detail was the side of the rose hip that you see in the picture, but I do take your points about it being a little unclear what it is. I actually quite liked this because it did look a bit alien and weird ;-)

Jem (Jem Lambert) added a critique 1 year ago:

These are strange plants - my gran has some in her garden and i've always struggled with processing any images i've shot of them - however here you've done a great job! I really love the detail brought out in the b&w nature of it - very nice work!

agme (Dmitry Antipov) added a critique 1 year ago:

yep:)
alien and weird :)

This is really a great picture. I like the tones in black and white. It only reminds me too much of a tourist shot though. You know, the pose and smile for the camera type of deal.

simonlloyd (Simon Lloyd) added a critique 1 year ago:

Yeah, I agree. I can't help thinking that a tighter crop around her face would show some great reflections in her glasses.

ArneG (Arne Gulstene) added a critique 1 year ago:

Considering the bright sunlight the shadows are controlled quite well here. I too might have cropped in a a tad closer.

agme (Dmitry Antipov) added a critique 1 year ago:

just an "i've been there" photo
