Maybe worth mentioning that the foreground is usually a grassy paddock. Cambridge flooded in October 2001, when I captured this rare view of the often-photographed St. John's Backs.

the note you added really adds a dimension to the photo. i like the starkness and clean black & white. nice shot.

You've got a lot of great images. This is one of my favorites.

this is great. the depth of field being so short is excellent. i don't think i would've naturally gone that way. but the effect it has on the photo is amazing.

What a great shot! Idea, technique, composition... Even a stunning example of the proper use of b&w... Breathtaking!

Glad this made it to the front page. I love this.

Excellent! It could have been featured in "ghost", too. :O)

This a great capture, the crack in the mirror and the grain of the face is very nice.

nice - I hope you have this on your wall! I would. great light, esp on trees... I really love this shot. Any significant PP?
charmarie (Char) said 1 year ago:
With the bird in flight makes this even more interesting!
HybridVision (Stephen Cameron) said 1 year ago:
@Ocean - thanks, I don't have it on my wall yet but it is definitely going up soon. The only PP I did on this shot was to convert from RAW (no changes) and crop it a bit. Goes to show how much good light will help a shot!
@charmarie - you're right, without the bird, I don't think this would have been a very interesting shot. I came very close to not taking it because I was watching the bird as I approached because it was resting on one of the trees. It flew away a lot sooner than I was expecting and I thought it would be too out of focus but I was lucky...

nice tones and suitably grungy for the subject.

What's out that window? Heaven? (Just joking around.) I like the simplicity of this shot. My only complaint is the bottoms of the towels are partially cut off. But otherwise, well done.
eggplant (Matt) said 1 year ago:
Thanks, Uncommondepth. Heaven, you ask? Well, outside the window is San Francisco...took this on a trip there last summer. Actually, you can just barely see the bottoms of the towels, but your point is well taken, because I did a pretty heave edge burn to this photo, and I think I over-did it, because they do look like they are cut off.
Thanks for the thoughts!

I just love this shot - I've been clicking it whenever it shows up. The tonality - framing - dang - everything about it - I'm so pleased that it has made the page!
elijah (Greg Carrick) said 1 year ago:
good shot - if there was a view outside, it may have been distracting
eggplant (Matt) said 1 year ago:
Thanks guys.
@ArneG, I was hoping someone might find this odd enough to be tickled by it.
@elijah, yeah, I intentionally let the outside get completely blown out to create that feel. Thanks for your thoughts.

This is truly lovely. See you on the front page soon...
NeilSmith (Neil Smith) said 1 year ago:
Excellent, fits the theme perfectly. The yellow window adds a splash of colour to an otherwise muted palette.

Beautiful light.
elijah (Greg Carrick) said 1 year ago:
lovely use of light and assymetry
BeakerSt (Simon Little) said 1 year ago:
This really works, I love the negative space that balances the geometry.
Great idea!
