That's some window to look out! Where in the world is this ancient looking settlement. This image represents why I love photoblogging - to be able to see parts of the world I may otherwise never see! Thanks for sharing it.

This is an interesting scene. Maybe at a dentist? The eyebrow ring makes wonder, though, if she's getting some kind of lip piercing.

In any event, I'm not sure that the shallow DOF works in this instance. This seems to be more of a documentary subject, where the shallow DOF isn't warranted. I would like to see both people in focus for a more journalistic effect.

The very tight crop is also an interesting choice... I wonder if standing back just a little bit would give this scene a little more room to breath?

Anyhow, I like what you're going for. Hope what I've said is at least a little helpful.

I don't really enjoy the shallow DOF here. It seems maybe it would be a bit better to have both people in focus.

rick1600 (Rick Slifkin) added a critique 1 year ago:

I actually really like the shallow DOF in this. I feel as though the focus on the girl drives the emotion of this photo. Whereas the person doing the piercing has an indifferent facial expression, the b&w combined with the sharp stare of the in focus girl gives this picture a feeling that I think is different than if both people were in focus.
I also think that the crop of the picture works well to induce intrigue. Once again, I'm focused on the girl's eye, even though the action is happening in the shadow of the other person's hand.
If this photo is supposed to capture the action of piercing instead of the emotion drawn by the girl, then I agree with the above comments that it should be in focus, and I also think there should be less of a shadow on the lip.

I'll go back the other way again and say I would prefer more dof, just because the image looks a bit flat, and so the out-of-focus piercer seems unintentional. Perhaps if there were more contrast the shallow dof would work better.
But I do like the composition and the point of view. I like the diagonal strength of the hand in the foreground.

charmarie (Char) added a critique 1 year ago:

I think this picture should have been shot at more of an angle behind the piercer and focused more on the girls look or maybe her eye in particular. Maybe that would help the DOF, with two people in the photo seems to much to try and focus on. It's not a bad photo at all.

I like all of the funky angles created here, and there are certainly some nice darks and lights. My suggestion for improvement would be to take a look at the boarders of this photo, especially across the the bottom and the top sides. I think the clutter detracts from the strong geometric feel of this photo.
Also, I'm not quite sure how the "out my window" theme is applied here.

Sorry, I thought you asked for a critique. I have to remember those are only the photos highlighted with yellow. So, please excuse the critical comments if they are not wanted.
