A whole another look too the topic architecture: usually their are about details of a building or a panoramic view where you can see the building in all its greatness.
However the picture shows hardly any details, it's very recognizable. Well done! Only thing what's bothering me a bit (just a bit nitpicking) are the two poles left from the tree.

Afoklala (Jan Willem van Dormolen) added a critique 1 month ago:

Great how you placed the sun directly behind the main structure. The picture looks like a fractal - great effect.
I agree with Tamara that the two poles are in the way, but what could you do? Take a large axe along on your next photo shoot?

ApurvaMadia (Apurva Madia) added a critique 1 month ago:

In my view too much empty areas and silhoette makes this worse. Not a shot write home about!

Looks like a forest of temples!! Nice backlite image.

Het is een ruizige foto, en dat is zonde. Om heel eerlijk te zijn ben ik ook niet echt weg van de compositie. Een gebouw als deze biedt wel veel mogelijkheden, blijf hiermee experimenteren.

Afoklala (Jan Willem van Dormolen) said 1 month ago:

Dank je voor het commentaar, Tamara. Het gruizige zie ik niet zo, misschien is mijn monitor vergevingsgezinder? De compositie is een kwestie van smaak denk ik. Ik vond de bolling van het gebouw en het schip wel mooi bij elkaar passen. Misschien moet ik links er nog een stukje afsnijden, tot aan de rand van het gebouw.

sfkp (Tamara) added a critique 1 month ago:

Hoi Jan Willem,
Groetjes!
Tamara

Cool the way the building looks like it's part of the ship.

Great! Looks like a night shot!

kseniaC (ksenia) added a critique 1 month ago:

looks very very delicate
and the plants almost look like jewels.
and the birds in the back add a very interesting effect to the picture.
great shot!

The shapes are pleasant to look at and the composition is balanced with the clouds, well done. What I miss is some more detail on the top of the statue (if it's the same I saw on another pic of yours) to bring it out to 3d some more.

Afoklala (Jan Willem van Dormolen) said 1 month ago:

Thank you for your comments.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 30 days ago:

Seems like a strong subject with a lot of potential. I just don't think this quite reaches much of it. The light is very flat and your composition is less than imaginative. The tonal range doesn't really help much to pull out some impact.

its difficult for me to critique this image as i am still trying to work out what it is! I was once told that there are two types of people to please when presenting an image. the first group loves an image that keeps them guessing and the second is the type that likes to know what they are looking at! I come into the second group. however on saying that, I love the lighting and love the colours.

ApurvaMadia (Apurva Madia) said 1 month ago:

Thanks! Its an ash tray shot from above with sunlight from the side and fill-in-flash.

sfkp (Tamara) added a critique 1 month ago:

jKay does has a good point, about those two sorts of people. Before I read your own comment, I guessed it was an ash tray... and I was right :) That makes me somebody of jKay's second group.

Anyway, my compliments about how you controlled the light, looks it wasn't an easy job.

Afoklala (Jan Willem van Dormolen) added a critique 1 month ago:

Really mysterious object. The writing on the side gave it away for me though. As I'm firmly a group-oner, I would have edited that out, if at all possible.
I love the impossibleness of the object. A metallic triangle, a bear, some dancers, what IS this? And no background to help in any way, superb.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 30 days ago:

Very nice abstract image. Also nicely graphic, thus holds very strong interest for me.

i can see what you are trying to do in the photo and it nearly works. you have the lead in line with the tram tracks and have isolated a couple by retaining colour. overall though, the image is just too busy - can't be helped in a crowed place though! I think that if you made this portrait rather land landscape, you would have a more simplified image. try cropping it on the right with the bottom right track starting in the bottom right corner.
great imagination!

ApurvaMadia (Apurva Madia) said 1 month ago:

Thanks for the input, I will try that out!

sfkp (Tamara) added a critique 1 month ago:

jKay has some good points. But when I saw the photo without his (hers?) comments I thought: what an useless space down under, why not center it more vertically? When I read jKay's comments I got the idea about the leading tram tracks, but still the large space with 'nothing' is bothering me.
If you want to use the tram tracks as a leading device, I would place the actual subject (the colored couple) on the tracks, or choose another subject if you can't make this pic over, for example the single man on the track with his left hand in his pocket.
But overall, I still like this photo however it isn't perfect imo.

Afoklala (Jan Willem van Dormolen) added a critique 1 month ago:

I would crop just above the curve in the left track. That way, the track lead up into the picture much more effectively.
Overall, I very much like this picture.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 30 days ago:

As a straight b&w this might work fairly well, but would probably still be a little unbalanced. The train tracks are a nice leading element, but the interest is the people. Sadly the people are a bit lost, a bit too far removed.
The selective saturation just serves to make the lack of focus worse. Is it about the tracks, is it about the people??? Selective saturation is usually used to set the focus of interest, but here it just doesn't work.

I realized that the lines were not straight as soon as I posted this photo, the "fixed" photo is here

sfkp (Tamara) added a critique 2 months ago:

Are you sure about the lines aren't really straight? If you get a closer look to the branches, it looks like they are hanging more vertically to the ground then on the fixed one. Maybe the wall (or building wich it belongs to) is on a incline or something?

Anyway, I love this shot. A bit 'back to nature', victory of the plants who are growing on this wall. And it fits well in this topic. Nice job!

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 2 months ago:

LOL, this is one case where I think this one with the tilt is really better. The other one looses a little interest for me... I might "punch" the tonal range a little on this, then I have been looking at a lot of film lately. My tonal range bias is generally towards a stronger contrast, more punchy. I think this is heavily influenced by my professional work where we shoot a lot of 35mm motion picture film, mostly Kodak Vision 200, sometimes the 800. And more recently, I am shooting still photo's on film again too.

boyd added a critique 2 months ago:

I agree that this shot works perfectly as is and I don't need a reference to a horizontal. If I were to want for anything it would be a little more sharpness and more punch in the leaves towards the top of the frame, but this is very minor. The textures are great.

Smooch added a critique 1 month ago:

I think there are many images within this photo. Sharpness may be an issue though.

the mood that youve been able to capture with this shot, is utterly fantastic.
there is soo much emotion and so much story behind it..
i think its awesome!
and i actually like the square format for the photo..
i think it makes a greater distinction between the road and the infinite sky..
but awesome shot!!

The look works perfectly for this picture. The runner, the car, and the power lines make a great horizontal line across the middle of the picture. I'd also have to agree with cropping the sky just a bit. Very nice work.

do you feel the heat? beautiful capture.

carolinehancox (Caroline Hancox) added a critique 1 month ago:

I like the way you have cropped it but then I am a bit of a sucker for square format photos! I really like this shot, everything is positioned perfectly and the road really leads our eye in

Good shot
