Hola Ana;

David

Thank you Kostas, I'm glad you like this pic

AnaGaztelu (Ana Gaztelu) said 2 days ago:

Hola David:
Saludos.

David_Rocaberti (David Rocaberti) said 2 days ago:

Hola Ana,

Muchas gracias.

Atentamente,

David

@lasiate What don't you like about it?? Have you never shot directly into the sun? Do you have a lens that makes a more attractive flare when you do? It doesn't say much to just say you don't like it. A lens flare is a very natural thing that happens when you point a camera directly towards the sun. Most of us are not that bothered by them and I kind of like the one's that is old Rokkor lens created in 1978. I wish I had a lens today that was this nice and would work on my Nikon bodies, but I don't...

I think this particular lens flare is quite nice. In color it is even better, but for this b&w winter scene it seems to complement the scene nicely. Much like the flare I used to see in 1978 while enjoying the warm aroma of peyote...

warreagle (Amy Warr) added a critique 4 days ago:

Clyde, a question on slide scanners. I work for a camp that has literally thousands of slides from the beginning till about 10 years ago. We're looking for one in a lower price range than the nik you've got...any suggestions on brand or model?

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 4 days ago:

For the volume you are talking about, the Nikon with the optional bulk slide scanner would be a tremendous time saver. The only other scanner I used might be a good alternative: Epson Perfection 4990 PHOTO. This scanner can be had on eBay for @$150 - $200 used. It is discontinued, but some new ones are still available.

It comes with Digital ICE technology (a MUST for scanning old slide, does a remarkable job of cleaning them up) and a 8 slide holder, so you can batch up 8 at a time.

Thanks for the info!

Another blast from the past, Clyde. I agree that the performance of this lens, based on your postings, is very high. Great contrast and detail across the frame. The flare makes me squint almost like I am standing on the ridge beside you. Thanks for sharing some more from your archives.

Bonita y cuidada fotografía, que nos introduce directamente en un jardin. Color, contraste, equilibrio... lo que se traduce en un trabajo bien visto y trasmitido. Saludos

Thanks for your comments, Juan Antonio - much appreciated as always.

Best to you,
Jon

I think the whole bottom foliage is distracting and unnecessary. The main subject would not feel quite as lost and dark if the crop was tighter and more focused on the flowers. Must have been a cloudy day??

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) said 3 days ago:

just before dark, actually. I agree in regards to the bottom foliage. A tighter crop would have been stronger, I think. Thanks for the critique, Clyde.

Jon

boyd added a critique 2 days ago:

Jon, great colours in this. I am not sure of the tighter crop because you will lose the bottom of the wheelbarrow. Perhaps burning in this foliage a little might help to make it blend a little better. Compositionally, I would prefer the flowers to not be quite so centred, so any cropping I would suggest would be off the left (perhaps almost to square?).

IMHO, to be an abstract the phisical form of the object is not captivating enough. The blue on the left also needs to be a little more sharp. Excuse me for expressing my frank thoughts!

sfkp (Tamara) said 7 days ago:

Why do you have to excuse? I ask for oppinions and feedback doesn't need to be positive all the time.

This is my first attemt to make something abstract. Personally, I love the combination of the green and deep blue.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 7 days ago:

The composition you chose creates tension. You have a horizontal fame and a vertical subject. I normally like tension in an image, but this just doesn't quite work for me. I bet this would look a lot better and hold more mystery as a square composition. That would also loose the dark corner in the upper right that tends to spoil any flow the subtle shapes in the blue object creates.

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 6 days ago:

I think if the foreground were a little sharper, you might have a stronger image - nice color combination.

Jon

boyd added a critique 2 days ago:

Tamara, I agree with you that the play between the green and the blue is quite pleasing, but I think that the green is broken up a little too much by the light patches. That said, the blue area is really very interesting. Given the other comments, I think that this could be a really good subject to revisit and shoot lots of different frames to see how different compositions etc work.

They're watching and listening all the time, just remember that when you go to work Monday morning... A little digital capture today as I walked into work, developed to look like Velvia in Nik Color Efx Pro.

lightningPaul (Paul) added a critique 8 days ago:

It fits the topic Blue very well. The lines from the windows and reflections are nice to look at. The reflected trees and the antenna totally at the right are a bit disturbing.

The more you look the more things and details you see. Well seen.

Thanks, Clyde...just what I needed to know - nice shot - thanks for posting. Great processing job.

Best,
Jon

boyd added a critique 2 days ago:

Great colour capture here, Clyde. The post processing also does a lot to help make an ordinary subject very interesting. Well seen and composed.

There seems to be too much empty space in this photo

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 11 days ago:

Brilliant work - great use of space and it tells a story about the tragedy of fire. Nice.

Best,
Jon

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 11 days ago:

@Christie: Well now, that's kinda the point now isn't it...? I am glad that you got the point. I am sorry that you feel it is a negative or a criticism. Emptiness or "negative space" in an image can be a very powerful tool for story, drama and impact.

See Jon get's it!!

taikrixel (thomas mueller) added a critique 6 days ago:

great bw work. well composed and it tells a story!

boyd added a critique 2 days ago:

Clyde, I like the bleakness that you have captured in this shot to show the devistation of a bushfire. I also think that the detail in the far mountains is very effective.
