Nice work - enjoy the compostion and your colors look great to me! I might have cloned out the debris in the upper right edge of the photo to clean things up a bit. Excellent!

I really like the bird. I keep seeing the great blue herons in flight around here but have yet to be able to capture one yet.

The problems with this image are 2, imo:
The composition is a bit too wide, crop off about 1/4 of the right and loose the dark bit at the edge and the bright spot in the water right along the eyeline
The tonal range is just a bit too flat, especially on the water, juice it up just a little.

I'd like to see this photo a bit wider: crop off the top so that the space above the birds head is about equal to the bird's head itself.
