Taken earlier tonight at South Crescent Bay in Laguna Beach, CA.

Great composition and exposure here, Clyde. I particluarly like the reflections in the wet sand where the wave has been and the paths of light leading to the houses on the hill. Well seen and a lovely location.

Wow - this is electric - a stunner for sure. Excellent work, Clyde.

Best,

love the glow of the city behind the hill... and where is that extra shine in the water coming from, the moon?

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 3 months ago:

Yes, the nearly full moon last night was shining through some thin rolling fog and was causing this wonderful golden light. This is a very subtle HDR conversion of a three shot bracket. f8 - 0, -1, +1 I was shooting in aperture priority, so I think the exposures were in the 8 - 12 second range. I exaggerated the contrast a bit and the saturation is boosted maybe 15%, otherwise this is pretty much right out of the HDR converstion. I use Photmatix.

am I wrong? It seems that the horizon is not straight. Otherwise, a very good shot!

I like this image. I like the colours.

What could improve this would be were you to process this twice. One for the dark, underexposed foreground (the bit under the houses) and one for the lighter areas. Overlay the two images and this way you would achieve a more even exposure.

Also, picky but perhaps correct the horizon which seems a little out of kilter.

That said, the shot is lovely. Did you take time for a leisurely stroll afterwards or did rush back to see this shot in PS. If you're like me I bet it was the latter!

I'm pretty sure this image is straight, it may not feel like it and I understand that may be more important. The spirit levels on my tripod head were level and straight. The houses have straight verticals and the bit of brighter beach that you can see near the left edge of the shot is straight. I will check the hi-res again tonight. Thanks all for the comments.

Nice golden glow. I like the arc of the water and the reflection.
