Amazing capture!!! Excellent focus in my opinion, I can't imagine how hard it was to capture a hummingbird. It's hard to critcize this photo just because of the fact that it's so hard to capture birds in general, but not only hummingbirds. But the only thing I can think is maybe lighten up the green in the background. I like the green, but it might help the photo just a little bit if it were a little bit lighter. But that is just being picky, great job!!!

I think this is awesome.
You do need a bit of separation between the subject, bird, and the background.

great capture, but I agree that there is too much ambiguity between the subject and background

Thank you for the comments everyone. It was a very difficult capture. We hung our feeder right on our windowsill and left the window open, so I was able to shoot from a chair right next to it. I don't have a good zoom lens yet, so it took a good hundred shots I think, LOL! Okay, so HOW do I improve this? I need more info on what the "bit of separation" and "ambiguity" means. I can lighten the background, but I think you may mean more than that (Mike and Brennan). Thanks!

I have one hanging outside near my outdoor table. I sometimes sit there and watch. I will have to get the camera out and see if I can compete with this... Nice one Amber. BTW, where do you live in VA? I grew up in Buchanan and went to JMU before it was called that, still know way back then as Madison College.

We are near Lynchburg. I'd love to see what you can capture with your feeder, please do compete! :-)

Great capture. Very impressive. The only thing I'd say is I find it a bit dark over-all. (And maybe even just a slight lightening of the image might make the hummingbird "pop" from the background a bit more? Maybe?)

Very difficult shot to capture. Beautiful colors, just an outstanding photo.
