I like the composition and DoF here, but I wish everything was a bit sharper.

Huh? My only comment would be to move the area of sharp focus back about an inch to really pull you to the eyes, let the nose go soft but keep the eyes in focus.

Heh - another example that critiques are just personal preference... I like the shot just they way you've done it myself. I had to click on this one out of all the pics currently in the critique section; definitely a fav. Nice job.

First, let me say I like it a lot. This looks like a spur of the moment photo to me, I totally understand you may not have had all the control you wanted at the time.
On the focus issue, I'm with Beamer - the eyes should be sharper than the nose.
Actually, there's something more going on there. It's like the focus catches most of the right eye, but not the lashes, and just the bag line under the left.
Argh! Now that I've looked at it too closely it's bothering my appreciation of the rest of the photo.

Love this picture overall..I think the focus would have been better on the eye/s. I am not sure the photo fits the category either...but my apologies if the child indeed took the picture.

Very nice use of DoF. The eyelashes blurred well and has an interesting angle as well. Overall nice black and white shot.
