Horizons *must* be level!!

This is a very nice shot which is fitting for the theme. As Andrew pointed out the horizon isn't level, which detracts from the image. Otherwise it's a fine image with nice, peaceful colors.

kamaki (Christophe) added a critique 1 year ago:

There's too much "skies" (the clouds and the blue one). only the one wirh clouds would be necessary. The sharp is missing for the picture, isn't it ?

Thanks for the comments. I agree with the rotate. And Cristophe, not a bad idea to crop away the blue sky, but it would take away from the minimalism feel. And I didn't want it tack sharp, at least that's not the mood I wanted to create.

Great photo Jason. I think this would have also fit well in the Solitude category. I think the colors are great!

kamaki don't like skies and always missing sharp. look at his other comments. (just kidding) :-)))

ok, now my humble opinion:
for minimalism there are too many elements.
we start with the sky/clouds. 4 levels, 4 different shades, the mood changes from calm (light blue at the top) to a little furious (grey at the horizon)

the water: the small waves adds a lot of structure to the surface and this "kills" the rest of the minimalistics in this picture.
I could imagine this sort of shot on a calm sea, clear horizo and a blue or misty sky with a tighter crop. that would be minimalistic enough with lot of mood in it and the eye could rest on the boat and our ears coul try to listen to the voices of the people inside the boat :-)))

if you take this image, adjust the levels to neutral, add a curve layer, make a "s" curve on rgb channels, try a landscape crop withthe boat on 2/3 position and it could fit wonderful to solitude.

hope this helps

Vernon,
Is the problem it isn't minimalistic enough or are you too good at noticing detail:) To be honest, I wanted to submit this one, but its too wide and I didn't want bother reprocessing the image. I guess I should have cropped it...

I see what you mean. That does look more minimalist:)

Vernon, I like your version too. Now, if we could just crop it off, from the top, to just below the bulbous cloud, so that we have three layers of colour, that would work for me as a minimalist image too. :~))
