I would rate this an an okay shot. Not bad but nothing too great about it.

gazdi (Csaba Bobák) added a critique 1 month ago:

It is a nice sight for sure. As a photo, I'm not sure I understand it. What do you want to show us? The light and playful forest? The nice curve in the road? The very interesting shapes of that tree? The lower levels of flora? Here we get a bit of everything and more, and for me it makes it hard to find a place to rest my eyes. I hope you'll have the opportunity to go back here to make and later post a larger set of photos each taken with a fixed aim in mind. Now I got a postcard-like image which makes me ask for more.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 29 days ago:

I agree with all above. I would add that the tonal range feels a little flat too.

boyd added a critique 8 days ago:

Hmmm, I am not sure how to respond to this image. I don't think that the tonal range is a problem, because it is exactly as you tend to find it in rainforests with the canopy providing diffused light to the ground below. I think that you have captured nice detail in the trunk of the fig and the path leads my eye quite effectively. The only criticism I can offer is that the palm frond at the bottom right of frame tends to cut the path and this is a little distracting. I agree than the subject could be broken down effectively into component parts to tell a story, but this also tells a good story. Well done.

I like the composition a lot. I like the shallow depth of field too. I feel this photo screams out for color though. I'm curious as to why you didn't shoot this in color? It could be my monitor, but the tones seem a bit muddy.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 22 days ago:

Hi, Tamara, I don't mind the b&w choice, but I agree with Smooch about the tonal range.

sfkp (Tamara) said 21 days ago:

Hi, thank you both for your comments. Originally I shot this in color (like all my photo's) but I thought it may look more powerfull in b&w. Just experimenting.
About the tonal range: I think it's always hard to choose between a lot of contrast but loose some details that way or less contrast and let the details visible.

kseniaC (ksenia) added a critique 19 days ago:

the composition and the details of the flowers and the butterflies are great! and i do agree that the b&w really does make it more dramatic. its also kind of unexpected..which makes it just that more interesting.

I agree with Jeff. Not a fan of borders, but this one is not too distracting for me. I think the flow is very nice and really need the lower left to work, so no, it's not "boring"

mooch added a critique 26 days ago:

I think that you have followed your ABC's for this and I love both the composition and the colours. I especially like the foreground and the delicacy of those flowers.

mooch added a critique 25 days ago:

Did you dodge those flowers to get them to contrast so well against the water?

abcPhotography (Armands B.C.) said 25 days ago:

If you mean the ones that are in the lower left corner, yes. I set the dodge tool to 2% and dodged them in a little very carefully. But I did some dodging and burning on other parts of the image too, so, could be...

the detail of the flowers...is great
and the reflection...is just amazing...
an utter copy of the sky...
just beautiful

Agree with all above, very nice image. One little thing, crop off just a wee bit off the right to loose the edge of the tree that is just showing.

pao_alfonso (Pao Alfonso) added a critique 29 days ago:

very nice framing. i love the play of shades in this photo.

berglings (micke bergling) added a critique 29 days ago:

I love it! Maybe you could crop some but just a little. in order to make it more exciting for me:)

JBridges (Jim Bridges) added a critique 25 days ago:

Absolutely beautiful light. (But I'll agree with the others. Crop about 10 or 15 pixels off the right side. But that's just nitpicking.)

this is very mystical in some way i cant even explain...but its so alluring...
awesome shot!!

I was just thinking the same as Bastian, more of a skyscape. I like the drama of this and the framing is nice.

paddlepunk (Holger Neu) said 1 month ago:

well i saw the nature topic before i saw the skyscape topic ;)

ApurvaMadia (Apurva Madia) added a critique 1 month ago:

Nice rendering of adverse weather, the clouds ahve come out nice. 2 cm crop from the top would make this a stonger image.

paddlepunk (Holger Neu) said 1 month ago:

maybe :D but i used it as wallpaper so i had to use this format :D

pao_alfonso (Pao Alfonso) added a critique 1 month ago:

i'd love to see just a teeny bit more of the ground, but you captured an amazing cloud formation here. i'd feel so tiny looking at something so vast.

Very cool image. Nicely framed and very crisp focus on the pelican. What a great shot. Excellent work.

Fantastic shot. The bird seems not to fly, but to float in the air. With an amazed crowd in the background, admiring the trick.

Very beautiful and the colors are amazing. I must say, I am very jealous of all the amazing JT pictures you are able to take.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 1 month ago:

Thanks Erik, it helps when you live an hour and a half away!! I call JT my church. It's where I go to recharge and talk to God without religion getting in the way.

The colours are amazing...
I also like the way the fern (?) breaks up the long straight horizontal cloud.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 1 month ago:

@Jan: Thanks! The plant you refer to is commonly know as a Joshua Tree, the namesake of the National Park. It is in the Yucca family. This is a young tree with only one stalk, examples of more mature trees:

I've commented your shot 24922, and this one is also very interesting, i think it would be nice to see both on the same page (if you see what i mean)

Boyd,

Interesting textures and composition on both of these shots...Nice work.

Best,

Smooch added a critique 1 month ago:

Great textures and nice delicate tones. Love the bird tracks. Could have a bit more contrast. I also like how the beach grass etches the sand slightly. Great capture. Inspiring to me!
