The over exposed background is competing hard for attention. I think the tree and the ivy is a very nice subject, you should go back and explore it more. Maybe a low angle at a different time of day??

I like the composition, but the background is too dominant and spoils the beautiful tree in the foreground - at least, for me.
Best,

Too green for me...and a bit washed out...I am sure it was beautiful in person...hard to capture

Hi everybody, this is my first critique and I hope to do it constructively fine! Well, as the comment above, yep, that branch on the left, I dont' like it either. I think it would have been better if you had moved a little bit to your right, or maybe closer to the two rocks and make them fill most of your frame, trying to avoid those branches, and giving the rocks even more importance. Of course, I don't know this place, so I don't know if this movement was possible. Anyway, for the rest, I like the desaturated/contrasted tone you gave the picture, and the dark vignetting on the sky. However, you should urgently consider removing that little spot in the sky that seems from dust in your sensor... a simple cloning touch would be enough.
Take care. I

I agree with the above positive comments about your choice of post prod treatment here, it is very effective and unexpected given the natural colours of the area. I think that the branch touching the marble is a little distracting, but it is a strong image nonetheless. Well done.
luan (Luan Huynh) said 2 months ago:
Thanks for your comments. I had never thought of the branch as a distraction before, but now it sticks out as a sore thumb.
I did see the dust before, but thought that no one would notice - how wrong I am. I really need to upgrade my camera (D70s), but can't really justify it at the moment, as my skills really don't match the camera's ability yet.
The Devil's Marbles are really interesting formations - there are dozens of other similar rock formations in the region. Unfortunately, it is in the middle of literally nowhere.
I'll update the picture and submit to "Duo".

This is just wonderful. Great composition, great subject, nice processing. The issue about the branch on the left IMHO is trivial and just does not detract from the quality of this picture.

This is a very cool shot. IMO, I think more color or more saturation for that matter would give this a lot more punch. It's very well-shot though :)

Wow. Spectacular shot, and thanks all for the great tutorial. I have yet to play with HDR, but this prompts me further to go explore it.

Thanks Craig! If you get stuck feel free to e-mail any questions my way. Lots of good links out there on how to do this properly.

Very pretty but a little too dark for me

Beautiful seascape/sunset shot. HDR seems very popular lately and therefore, for me it quickly looses its appeal. However, landscapes like this really gain from a modest use of the technique.

El fondo perturba y la mancha negra de la derecha distrae. Quizá cortando por ambos lados y dejando un formato cuadrado.....

Nice shot. I like the blur, but would like a little less blur in the background.

I agree with the others... great tones, interesting texture, but I'd also liked to have seen a bit more DOF to get more of the leaf in focus. Although I'd disagree a little with Noah: I didn't even really notice the webs on first glance until I read your description because they are largely out of focus. I think if they were more in focus, they'd distract from the leaf.
snaps (Dana N) added a critique 3 months ago:
A touch more focus and it'd be fantastic. But it is good and love the colours..
mrsmorunion (Tammy Runion) added a critique 2 months ago:
I like the cob webs. I think it adds to the delicate photo and the leaf itself.
lauravink (Laura Vink) added a critique 2 months ago:
I love the colours! The composition is very nice to, although I wish a bit more had been in focus, but that is my personal opion.

More focus or a little bit more sharpening would have been great. Still a great a subject.
Wow . . . breathtaking colors and a beautiful scene! Congrat's on being featured, it's well deserved.
