This is a very interesting subject, but I agree with blossompp3 that the highlights on the right are a little blown. The detail you have captured on the main section of the flower are very nicely exposed and have pleasing tones.

I really like the texture of this photo, can't add anything else that hasn't already been said! Great job!

What an interesting plant. A shade of some sort for the sun on the right would have been helpful as the others have said. What kind of plant is it? I have never seen that before!

Thanks AD. It's actually a baby banana plant/tree, and those are baby bananas ;)

Saludos

Hi Thea,
This is a nice capture. Close-up work unavoidably involves narrow DOF and that brings the challenge of finding the right place to have the focus. You chose for the wing farthest away from the camera. I would have chosen the body and the wing up front to have the focus.
Thea (CA Taylor) said 3 months ago:
Yes, you are right on the money on that one. I hope I have learned from it!
sfkp (Tamara) added a critique 3 months ago:
I have to disagree. With a tighter crop you can make the left wing the main subject. The left wing is projected as the biggest one, and that's why it can be the main subject.
narnold (Noah Arnold) added a critique 3 months ago:
I do like having the left wing as the wing in focus, but I do think having the body in more focus would help the photo. I do like composition of this photo overall though! keep up the good work!!
AmberDawn (Amber Sullivan) added a critique 3 months ago:
If the body were in focus just a bit more it would be fabulous! Still a great shot. :-)

Hey Amy, this looks suspiciously like you have moved beyond the fence! I like the use of b&w here with a good tonal range, and the interest that the people bring to the shot (although I would like to see them a little sharper in focus). Also, it might strengthen the composition overall if the clouds could be burnt in a little more.
warreagle (Amy Warr) said 3 months ago:
you are right about beyond the fence! Thanks so much for the comments.

I agree with boyd, I like the people in this shot, it adds alot to this photo, I like how you captured the clouds hovering over the mountains

I wonder what the one chap was so animated about! Good feel, would prefer a bit more sharpness.

Stunning landscape. The photo seems to get a bit unnaturally dark in the top, although I am not sure how much of that might have been lighting at the time versus processing. But it captures the starkness and texture of the landscape well.

Synevyr is the biggest mount lake in Ukraine. This picturesque lake is a diamond of the mountains. Cold. Clear. Marvellous. The beauty of local landscapes here is so unique that even those who have traveled to many parts of the world, who have seen many wonders of the world, will not remain indifferent to the modest and wild beauty of the Carpathians and one of their marvels - Lake Synevyr. Synevyr shines like crystal-clear brilliant in the diamond-green setting of the Carpathian forest. The water in the lake is amazingly transparent, and the reflection of the blue sky in il must have suggested the name - Synevyr (the word suggests that two roots could have been combined: syni — "blue" and vyr - "whirlpool").
It is a rather deep lake - in some places it is 20 meters (60 feet) deep, with the average depth being 8.2 meters. Four mountain rivers empty into the lake which is also fed by some underground water sources. Even in summer, the water in the lake, except for the surface layer, is pretty cold - 4 or 5 degrees Centigrade (about 40 Fahrenheit). So you have to he an experienced winter swimmer to enjoy a dip in Synevyr.
The lake is situated at an elevation of 989 meters. The most advantageous view of the lake opens from the mountain summit which is located close by and is called Mount Ozrnya (Lake).
From the height of 1496 meters above the sea level, to which you can climb following a path through the forest rich in berries, you will enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the Carpathians in all their green glory. And right in the midst of it you will see the blue eye of Synevyr staring at you.
If You want to order and buy this photo, you may do this here Synevyr

Indeed, a very strong image. Maybe even better dan het coloured one.
(and no... still no naked lady visible... she must be still hidden in the high grass/weeds ;)
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 3 months ago:
Congrats Mikhail!! I like this one much better that the color one. Hey, BTW, have you tried Nik Software's Silver FX Pro?? It is a great way to convert digital to look like B&W film:
misu (Mikhail Palinchak) said 3 months ago:
Beamer, thanks... I am glad You like it. I make convertion to B&W with Nik Software plug-in (color gradient filter) but not with Silver FX Pro. I found Silver FX Pro onlu two weeks ago... so I have it and from now make all conversion to B&W and sepia only in it =)
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 3 months ago:
Yep, I am really liking the results I am getting with the Silver FX Pro plugin. It is creating quite a dilemma for me. I recently started shooting film again and bought a Nikon F100 which I just love. But this software does such a nice job of converting digital to look like it was shot on film. And the problems associated with trying to get a good scan off a silver base negative are tempting me to just shoot digital and convert...??? Anybody have any thoughts?

This is a tough one to critique.
What do you mean by shading?
The only thing that distracts me a little is the shadow area on the leaf seems to be a bit to dark...
Other wise i think its great.
Wonderful tones!
narnold (Noah Arnold) said 3 months ago:
Thanks Mike! Sorry about shading, I wrote that in a hurry and didn't evn realize I had written shading, I mean the out of focus part around the leaf, I made it fuzzy on purpose and I was wondering if that enhance or took away from the photo....when I get a chance will try to lighten the shadows on the leaf, thanks for the comment!!
op_perrin (Olivier Perrin) added a critique 3 months ago:
j'aime la tonalité de cette photo, peut-être trop centré la feuille. Le haut de la feuille ne ressort pas assez. Pas facile avec l'effet que tu as choisi
blossompp3 added a critique 3 months ago:
Beautiful photo! I love the colors and the curling of the leaf. It has a very serene feeling.
kseniaC (ksenia) added a critique 3 months ago:
i think this photo is absolutely great!!
i love the colors and their tones.
and i just LOVE the definite shape of the leaf.
and i actually like that it is defined also by the darker shadows...becuase it is the subject and your eye is then immediately drawn to it.
looks great!
Beautiful flower. The lighting on the right is a little harsh and causing you to lose some detail.
