Okay - one more. This fella is a more "wild" (natural) setting. Just wish I was a little lower. Enjoy fellow squirrel fans...

Leigh-Anne...love the shot, but, for me, a tighter crop really close could bring up more detail and his/her expression, but love it anyway. ;~D

No glass doors, windows, smoke or mirrors. Just crawled up to this little guy...

MMeye (Martine) said 9 months ago:

Well, I'm so jealous....
Why are your squirrels so friendly compared to mines ?! :(

This is an excellent portrait, wow, difficult to make it better without a long lens... A pity you had a wall as a background, it is a bit conflicting with the 'Wildlife' concept. But well, I do understand you had no various choices here, and I would have also shot (and several times !!) if I could have faced this little guy ;-)

Leigh-Anne,

Another great shot - love it! Keep posting these little guys - what fun.

Best,
Jon

Thanks guys!! I have a few that are more "wild" in appearance where I managed an angle and background that isn't quite so "backyard." But, I just love the intense little look on his face, while he welcome all the pecans I could toss him.

More to come...

Must be the same guy as in the earlier shot, he'd become familiar with you...Great shot! love it.

I actually spent more time working on this image, and think I like the adjusted version better...

How did you get this one to stand still for you...beautiful! :~D

Lamdennison (Leigh-Anne Dennison) said 9 months ago:

Usually...I stay superlow to the ground (often flat on my face), talk to them in a soothing tone and feed them a steady stream of walnuts, pecans or peanuts. They also LOVE homemade cookies - shock!

In this case, I was actually on the other side of the sliding glass door (talking quietly and moving very SLOWLY). :D

Animals just take to me...

lolly (lolly smits) said 9 months ago:

I thought so! I guess you have your camera pre-set to be able to take these types of pix quickly, handheld or, in this case, floorheld...

Lamdennison (Leigh-Anne Dennison) said 9 months ago:

...I actually spent a lot of time lying on the floor with my lens placed against the glass adjusting and clicking away. As soon as they realized we couldn't touch them through the glass and as long as I didn't make any sudden movements, they (or at least a couple of our squirrel visitors) had no problem enjoying the benefits of our balcony -- hot and cold running food, a little shelter from the wind and snow...flowers they could eat in spring.

lolly (lolly smits) said 9 months ago:

Yes, I get wildlife visitors to my balcony too--ringtail possums, many native and non-native birds, using my birdbath, eating the plants. Nice!

Different. Keep looking at it, but I'm just not sure!

Ben (Downing) said 9 months ago:

nice, usually fringing is a horrible thing to find in your picture, but in this case it makes the image. cool... I might have got rid of the antenna though ;)

Lamdennison (Leigh-Anne Dennison) said 9 months ago:

Wow, Ben. I can barely see that (had to change a lot of settings t reveal it)-- time to calibrate my monitor again.

Thanks, Jon. I shot it in color, and actually like both versions.
