fantastic! any more pictures of this building?

KidJim (Jean Marc Veliscek) added a critique 1 year ago:

Congrats on the feature Jenine, that's really neat!

jeninja-inja (Jenine Lindeque) said 1 year ago:

thanks everyone and for the feature! This is one of the government buildings in Jaipur, the picturesque capital city of Rajasthan (India). This is not really a tourist attraction but we had a awesome guide, he stopped here for 5 minutes, I took this picture, he had a ciggie, a tight schedule to Delhi, so that was it. One of my favourite pictures of the trip. Thanks again!

Actually this is the Palace of the Winds. The harem ladies of the Maharaja could peep down at the folk below without being seen themselves...
Great symmetric shot, ditto contrasts, could use a little tilt to the left though...

Thanks Ronald

I like the composition of this a lot. It is good for the topic too - sort of a "textures in textures" thing.

Something about the super saturated blue in the lower right (I think I see clipping artifacts when I look for them) feels unnatural. I realize the one vivid tile compared to the other pastel tiles is the part of the photo's charm, but it may be taken just a little too far.

Ronaldus (Ronald van Beek) added a critique 1 year ago:

I actually know the location of this shot, I think.
Parc Guell, the "Gaudi place" in Barcelona, Spain is it not?? (I shot the same wall last year!)
It has a nice perspective, although I would have liked some more sharpness overall, not the shallow DOF it has now...
Exposure is quite spot on, though some highlights are blown in the white ceramics, but are hard to get around I guess.
The coloured square second from the right is cut off a bit...would have liked the little corner inside the frame.

Wonderful details.
Great colors and exposure to show the beauty and the uniqueness of these tiles.
I agree with the colors competing for attention with how bright the blue tile is.

I would like it better in all B+W, that technique is a little over-done I think. Great shot otherwise!

TammyLynn (Tammy) said 1 year ago:

Thanks guys. :-)

The original photo has her entire face exposed and I assure you she has two eyes. :-) I was just trying something different here, different for me that is. I'd originally started this photo for Weekly Shots and then got busy and when I came back to it the Weekly shot topic 'one half' had closed. So I did a cheeky thing and cropped this to make it square and posted it here. I actually like this better cropped as a square so I'm glad I did it.

About the eye, I edited this photo as a whole working with levels and curves to get this effect, therefore the eye wound up solid black which was very creepy! So I added a layer and slipped in the original eye which was in colour and then got to playing with that.

Sure some might think this technique is over done, but I'm not out there and I don't see it very often so I think it's cool. I'm still learning and I learn by doing. :-)

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like it the way it is. If I would do different, it would be to make the falloff to black more gradual if possible. The line of black down her nose could be a little less distinct.

Ronaldus (Ronald van Beek) added a critique 1 year ago:

I would like to have the face cropped out tightly.
Therefore the right arm would not distract as much as it does now...
The model does look into the camera in a compelling way, that is great, although I do miss some light in the right eye(socket)
The blue eye is a nice addition to the look of the model and the colour is subtle and not to prominent.
Beautifull girl.

Agree that spot colour can be overdone. But in this case it works exceptionally well. Good work.

Wow. Excellent use of minimalism in the extreme. I agree with the observation about the green cast, but it doesn't get in the way of the image as a whole.

creative666 (Craig Wilson) added a critique 1 year ago:

Love the minimalistic approach here - the detail in the water splash is excellent!

gerrit said 1 year ago:

thanks. i didn't see the green cast, when i uploaded this one. it would be fairly easy to remove, but i'm going to leave it like it is.
the white in this photo is real, there is no photoshop involved. the "background" for this picture was a softbox with the bright white as a result.

Topher (Christopher Mueller) added a critique 1 year ago:

Brilliant Gerrit. I had to look really hard on my screen to see the edge. Great timing with this shot.

Ronaldus (Ronald van Beek) added a critique 1 year ago:

Great shot! The water splash comes out great. The water level looks a bit artificial to my eye, but I am not sure,...have to scrutinize a glass of water to be more certain ;-)

It was my intention to leave part of the car out. IT makes people uncomfortable when something isn't complete. I like making people uncomfortable. Too many people are stuck in 'this is what makes a good photograph'. This is an amazing photograph to me. I know what's on the side of the car that's cut off. No one else does. That's makes it unique in my eyes. Knowledge is power. Thanks for all the comments! :)

.moses.

mikeock (Mike Adams) added a critique 1 year ago:

I agree with why you cut the car off.
Does make people wonder.
IMO to execute that properly, you should have also cut off the left head lamp. Currently, to me, it is a distraction as it is not complete and my eye is drawn to it.

Jordan (Jordan Young) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the composition, it's different. What an awesome lotus, you captured the color perfectly. I wish the sunshade wasn't in there, but unless it's your car you can't really control that. I would have also liked to see a little more of the side of the car so I could see the rims.

Great work.

chromadreams (David) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the treatment but not the croping, I would like it more viewing the whole car.

Ronaldus (Ronald van Beek) added a critique 1 year ago:

Great postprocessing!
If you can maybe you could crop out more from the left (leave the Lotus emblem in the frame)and add more to the bottom of the shot.
Giving it more space below and adding more strength to the compo.
