Sweet capture. It shows the texture of the leave really nice. The red lovebug gives a nice contrast with the rest of the colour tones of the whole scene.

imo the sunspots are destracting, especially those in the upper right corner and the one in the left upper corner. I would also crop the image. I experimented a bit with covering it with a peace of paper and a square crop would work here best.

boyd added a critique 2 months ago:

I also like the colour and contrast of the bug, and that it is in very sharp focus. This is a nicely, if a little unconventionally, composed shot that gives a good overall effect. Well done.

Tamara is right about the distracting bright spots in the upper part of frame. I do think a tighter framing/cropping would help overall.

It's a nice macro shot. i would have tried a different angle, a little lower.

koo88 added a critique 6 months ago:

I agree with Vertigoo, but you can't go wrong with 1 red rose.

lightningPaul (Paul) added a critique 1 month ago:

The flower is a bit too unsharp. The background just behind the flower is disturbing. Perhaps a different angle would have improved it a lot.

I don't really get your motive here?? Seems like an interesting enough subject, just not sure why you chose this framing and camera angle.

marcintomczak (Marcin Tomczak) added a critique 2 months ago:

I think that camera is to close to object (child) and vertical view isn't good in this case.

lauravink (Laura Vink) added a critique 2 months ago:

I agree with Beamer, I don't see the motive here. I think it's also a shame you don't see a nose or an eye of the child, that would have made it a bit more interesting.

But even then, the compostion still isn't great I think. I would have tried to capture the child from the side, to see what is is doing for example.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 2 months ago:

The image is a bit cluttered and the interest/motif is non-focused. The framing is too loose to really feature the pine cones. The background is bright and the detail is lost in the pine cones so the impact is lessened. The best part of this is the bright green sprig of grass, imo.

boyd added a critique 2 months ago:

I agree with Clyde on this one. The subject certainly has promise and there are lots of good things going on, particularly the contrasting textures of the different natural materials, and the green of the grass is great. Nice work.

Me gusta el colorido. Hay algo en la parte de la derecha(quizá sean unas ramas)que estropea un poco el conjunto de los reflejos. Yo reduciría la parte oscura de la mitad hacia abajo.

I think it will be better if you croped the black bottom!

This picture brings a smile to my face, very lively and filled with great colors! Excellent shot!

What a happy photo. the blues are beautiful. What is the frog on?

TerynYancey (Teryn Yancey) said 6 months ago:

the frog is on a pool cleaner

Nice colors. Makes me want to help the little guy out. Great shot!

JeBeKe (Jan Verbeke) added a critique 6 months ago:

Great shot indeed. You can even see the reflection in the cleaner. I think cropping it so that the frog's leg almost reaches the bottom right corner, will make the picture stronger.

Very cool shot. Was this taken while on another ride to get this vantage point?

Great shot like the way you caught the motion of lite beam as well the shadows blend in to make for a cool illusion. Is that a fan in motion??

interesting light and shadow play. Comp. is pretty good and the colors are unusual - they compliment the overall treatment very well. Thanks for sharing.

surprenant effet mais très réussi. L'œil était dans l'escalier!

This is a terrific shot! When I saw the thumbnail, I assumed it was a flower macro, only to be pleasantly surprised by a neat abstract playing with lights and shadows. I don't know if I would have done anything to this shot if I were taking it, it's pretty awesome all around.

La idea es buena y tierna, pero el fondo distrae y el niño está "apagado" lo que transmite algo de tristeza.

I like the seized moment, you knew to interest your subjects. I am obstructed by clearness, it misses some, surely too weak DoF. At the same time, a blur background makes it possible to emphasize the principal subject. Your photograph comprises a little burn (in the background), a solution with this problem is the flash used in fill-in. I wish you a good continuation, and new photographs increasingly more beautiful… Greetings.
