I see a sky... ocean... and possibly some waves hitting a dock... maybe. The focal point is definitely where the waves are hitting the dock (if that's, indeed, what this is.)
Looks like an abstract painting. I love trying to figure out this kind of stuff.
On another note, I'm not sure that I entirely understand why people want some kind of focus in an intentionally blurred photo. Sometimes it's just not necessary, in my opinion. ;)

hey brandon, thanks for your comment.
you're right with the "components" of this shot.
if you look longer and let's say "precise" at the pic, then you'll find the focus :)))
on the other hand, if the focus would be there where you've said, the the waves would be sharp, right? :-))

i can't say what it is, but it reminds me to my abstract images.
btw. i think the focus is on the highkey sky.
VernonTrent (Vernon Trent) said 1 year ago:
@thomas,
the sky is "far", that means "infinite" on the lens. the sea and the horizon would also look sharp then :-)

can it be that u made that shot through a window? to me it looks like there are a few little raindrops ... and they are sharp
lbstone (Brandon Stone) added a critique 1 year ago:
Ah... I was talking about focus in terms of my eye being drawn to that area. I new it wasn't technically in focus. ;)
But I do see a little speck in the lower right. Maybe that's the part you're talking about?
VernonTrent (Vernon Trent) said 1 year ago:
ok, this makes also sense with leading the eyes to something (focus)
it is a window shot and as you already have discovered, there is one rain drop. (right)
here is the same window but another cam and angle

Beautiful, abstract shot. Very painterly.

Too much blur for me, but it's like an abstract painting and It works . The gray colors are sweet. I like it !

You should check out the work of JMW Turner. That's what this reminds me of. If this is the effect you were aiming for then well done. I might try it myself ;-)

I agree with Arne and Mark. I really like this kind of moody shot.

seems to be a painting

Every time I see this photograph, I love it more. It reminds me the painting of Nicolas de Staƫl.

This is beautiful Vernon- it has an ethereal quality something I would love to have on my wall in a large painted format.

it's all about blur in this theme and I've seen a lot of comments missing "focus points" or things like that :-)
so, here is such an image, with a "focus point".
let me know what it is :-)
cheers,
