The focus seems a bit soft, although that contributes to the romance of the image. (And I am nit picking, but it seems like there is some sensor dust and a line in the upper right corner that could be cropped out). Still, the photo has a lot of appeal because of the warm tones and the romance of the shutters.

i love the texture of the wall & the tonality of the light, but i agree with the above comments about the focus
mikeock (Mike Adams) added a critique 1 year ago:
The above comment state it well.
The coloring on this is wonderful.
From the thumbnail it looks almost like a fire.
Udower (Udo Weier) added a critique 1 year ago:
I like the coloring. The photo is like a painting

Too much dock, nothing for eyeball to focus on. Maybe placing a person or an interesting object near the end of the dock would give it some focus.

i love the glow, but i agree...the FG is a bit empty. Love the tone though....just the right shade of evening...
LifesMoments (Allison) added a critique 1 year ago:
I couldn't agree more with the other comments! But what if you stepped out a few more feet and only had the old planks?
andygibb (Andy Gibb) added a critique 1 year ago:
i like this as is...the lines and grain on the wood draw you to the mist...great image and wonderful tones
thoughtdujour (thought du jour) added a critique 1 year ago:
i was drawn to the tone of the steel blue colors and to the contrast of the wood. There is something difficult about the photo though once my brain had finished digesting the scene. I want to know what's at the far end...
Perhaps if you shot the photo from a lower angle...it would have worked. My guess it that what was at the end might not have been that interesting which is why you choose the leave it out?

Did you go back and shoot this location friday?! :)
dontpanic added a critique 1 year ago:
i love the perspective that you've got on this one. just find the structure outside a bit busy for the rest of the frame...it's a nice contrast maybe, but for me it detracts from the abstract quality of the stairs and the feet.

Beautiful.

excellent use of the lens, and nice off-centre framing. Maybe if the silhouette had been sharper instead of the light bleed....

the styling reminds me of something that I would see perhaps in a Nat. Geo magazine...

Nice composition, but I think it's a bit too dark. I'd like a little more detail in the boat.
dontpanic said 1 year ago:
i crushed the blacks on this deliberately...wanted the only highlight on the boat to be on the rim. But i guess it got a little too much...:)
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:
I like this a lot too. I understand the thoughts about the foreground, both ways. My comment would be: if you wanted to isolate the rim of the boat and the flag, then try totally darkening the foreground, make the area to the right of the frame near the bottom all black. The little bit of highlights that are there pulls the eye a little away from the focus you wanted and you really can't tell what it is. Might work better that way??
The sky and the flag with the light rays is beautiful.
danne (danne eriksson) added a critique 1 year ago:
I just love the red flag in the wind.
nrcowlishaw (Nathan Cowlishaw) added a critique 1 year ago:
For me the scene in the bottom of the photo is just too dark to make out all the details. I have the gamma adjusted on my screen to the appropriate level. I would suggest you lighten the photo a little bit. The composition looks decent though, and the colors great. Maybe it's just my screen?

This images is to washed out. All that is readable is the BMW logo. Not sure if that is waht you were going for?
Lemmingstone (Peter) added a critique 1 year ago:
Howdy David. I really like the type of effect you are going for here. I love the high contrast/desaturated feel but I think that it perhaps doesn't work so well here because of the large amount of sky? The bottom half of the shot is better than the entire image. But I do like the effect.
chromadreams (David) said 1 year ago:
thanks for the comments.
Virginia, I can see almost everything, my intention was to was out the colours and tainted them into a soft blue atmospgere, but not to was out everything, I can see the ship shape so well and the ships at the background, and so on, so maybe my screen is not so well calibrated, maybe mine or maybe yours, even maybe both of them and that's why we see diferent things.
Peter, the large amount of the sky is because of ship's mast, but maybe you're right, with a little less of sky it would be better.
thanks again to both of you.
dontpanic added a critique 1 year ago:
i agree, the desat/high contrast feel is really nice, but i think the bottom half of the frame is too busy and the top half too empty. Also, i didn't find the way the subject has been framed too engaging....
Topher (Christopher Mueller) added a critique 1 year ago:
Frankly I just don't know what to look at here. If anything I like how little saturation there is, but like 'dontpanic' I don't see anything here pulling me in. Maybe it's that nothing here is complete; nothing is staying in-frame. The detail is good and complimented by the tone, but if the boat filled the frame, or even a focus on the bow...

yep love the composition.. only down fall is the lack of sharp focus on the boat ..
ldw (Lee) added a critique 1 year ago:
I like the composition but overall the boat is a bit soft, anyway sharpening can improve that?
photofixation added a critique 1 year ago:
I did not like the positioning of the boat in the frame .. may be you have tried to avoid distraction in front of the boat
dontpanic added a critique 1 year ago:
I really feel the water is too murky for this kind of a shot. I feel it would have worked better with clear blue waters...and the framing is a bit odd keeping in mind the angle at which the boat has been shot....
chefron (Ron Ernst) added a critique 1 year ago:
Great image. Boat is in the best place. The image shows thought in composition.

somehow the frame doesn't work for me....and the focus being at the end of the boat throws too large an area out. The light is very nice though....

This is a great abstract close up. The tones are great without details getting lost in the deep blacks
andygibb (Andy Gibb) added a critique 1 year ago:
nice close crop , love the lines and reflection...works well in mono
aloha_photo (Jeff Sisemoore) added a critique 1 year ago:
I love this one. I like the details left in the white area, but notice that they are missing in the black areas of the image. Still, the starkness of the black has an appeal, so I can live without the details there. Good work.

I loveeeee the contrast here ,it has such beauty .. well done..
dontpanic added a critique 1 year ago:
the reflection is nice but i feel the frame has been cut off. I feel like i want to see more of the photo...the prow being cropped somehow irritates the eye...
I love the warm color, the contrast its very nice.
