I like it too...the incline works well withing the frame, and I really like the windows.
tengtan (Teng Tan) added a critique 1 year ago:
I like the colour harmony and the use of grain which emphasizes the faded old-world charm.
To me, as a composition it seems to lack unity as there are so many features in the image. I think for this topic, a closer crop to the relevant structure (door) would make more impact detailing the wood grain, the graffiti and the subject's aged character.
Another alternative might be to use a portrait format and include the whole (or a substantial part) of the balcony on top of the door to enhance the character of the door.
A figure always adds interest and enhances the 'information' content of a street- or city-scape. However here, to my eyes, the figure would be better placed to the right of the door rather than in it, using it as a lead-in (directional) device and also to avoid obstructing the main subject. Alternatively it would look pleasing to have him walking the other way placed between the door and the window (if the latter is included in an alternative crop).
It would also be advantageous to upload a higher resolution image to better display detail particularly here.
The image has much charm and just needs some refining to optimise its qualities.

I was gonna to comment, but I see Teng has done a thorough job already! I would have like to have seen this photo without the male subject as I feel he detracts from the topic subject of "Doors." The building itself is full of character and the mood and colors are wonderful.

I see & agree mostly with the points Teng has made but on the other hand, with just looking at this and with out fine combing through it, it's a wonderful photo that has an old world feel to it. The added grain and coloring make it look like an old painting. Nice work.

From my perspective the man really adds to this image. Having him framed within the door works well for me.
The quality does feel a little soft, though. Not a lot of crisp detail. (That's actually something that I don't mind much, though.)
Overall, I really like this one... The colors and textures are just great.

I'm glad this made it. I think the mood and fiction of this photo are fantastic.

Thanks for the feature and comments. Philippe, this image is title "The Road To Heaven" and I was aiming for a dark, almost eerie feel. The trees help provide that I think. Also the trees and birds go together.

It's just an opinion and I understand your point. I like the general atmosphere of this picture, anyways.

Great miniature landscape. I'm imagining if this mushroom were the size of a building (not sure why, but I am).

Lots of great lines in this photo: the carpet pile, the railing, the row of lights...very geometric.

Vernon, this is a very intense detail, and I like the contrast and that almost copperish tone. My only problem with the composition is the slightly off kilter horizon. For some reason the asymmetrical balance of the frame just throws me off.
May I ask where this is?
VernonTrent (Vernon Trent) said 1 year ago:
matt, thanks for your feedback.
this is in about 100 meters height on a cathedral tower. taken from the ground, with a 600mm lens
www.weeklyshot.org/theme/pain-in-the-ass/response/...
and around 200m far from the cathedral.
it was in barcelona, but I don't remember the name of the cathedral, because there are a lot of them. :)
what you see is the full frame. I could have done some correction for tilt/shift, but then I would loose the upper and lower part of the details which I normally wanted to keep.
cheers,
v.t.
