I really like the bird. I keep seeing the great blue herons in flight around here but have yet to be able to capture one yet.

I agree with the debris removal on the right!

The problems with this image are 2, imo:
The composition is a bit too wide, crop off about 1/4 of the right and loose the dark bit at the edge and the bright spot in the water right along the eyeline
The tonal range is just a bit too flat, especially on the water, juice it up just a little.

I'd like to see this photo a bit wider: crop off the top so that the space above the birds head is about equal to the bird's head itself.

Nice Job. Very difficult time capturing lightning But I love how you did not crop out the shot and kept all the negative space. It helps to build up the energy of the bolt.
