I think this could have been exceptional if the shot was dropped down some so there isn't as much white space up above, you didn't have the shadows behind them and it was exposed so that the white space was close to being blown out. I really like the expressions and the boy on the right moved forward from the others and out front.

I like the composition but maybe with more continuos shoting you could have got even more interesting faces expressions.

agree with BepperRdam, consecutive capture could result in even better face expressions.

It made me stop. I think that the cropping that you have done works well, I am not so much a fan of the heavy and uneven vignette effect that you have included. However, this is still a powerful image.

too sharp and dark for me

I have to agree with the "over sharp" sentiment expressed by others. I do like the processing otherwise. Your subject has a great face, too.

I agree that it looks a bit over-sharp, but I personally don't think it's a problem with this image. It is a little bit dark (and I literally mean very little). But over-all, it's got good character and I think it works.

A bit oversharpened to me also - and a bit over processed in general. But I like the expression and composition

Tammy, thanks for your thoughts - much appreciated - was an overcast afternoon with great light, but it was a spur of the moment session away from the studio, and I didn't have an umbrella to throw just a little light into the eyes! - jon

I wouldn't have noticed any of the mensioned "problems", if they were not mensioned. They're right, but anyway this is a great portrait.

Along with the dark eyes comment, I think that the face in general is too dark and a bit soft. It seems that the focus was on the wall behind and not the girl.

i love her expression on face! maybe the color can be warmer.

Very original idea for this category. Very moving and wonderful photo. This capture inspires in me a desire to give more than I am giving to our global community. Well done, my friend.

I would have been tempted to convert this to b&w, but I am glad you have presented as is because it is a very strong image. I agree with the above comments and commend you on a very sensitive treatment of the subject (I particularly like the engagement with the subject's eyes). Bravo!
