A nice image, but I agree with the comment that noted a shallower depth of field, to isolate the bottles in the frame, could be a nice effect; also, did you try different lighting (such as from below; maybe that would be too much like a bar...)
jsmanseau added a critique 1 year ago:
Great image and colors. I do agree with the comments of more of DOF and try different lighting, but this is very nice and eye catching. I really like the textures of the wall and also in the reflection in the bottles.

nice compo

It looks very good in the thumbnail, but I don't like the background. The composition and perspective are both well-chosen.

Amazing image. It made me just stop and think "WOW" in big glowing red capital letters!
I disagree with the comments saying it's oversaturated, I think it goes pretty well with the "epic" mood.

This is just really great. The blur feels musical to me... fits perfectly.
Sweetness.

This is very good...I can hear the jazz. I love the musician's head, very surreal and abstract; it fits the genre of music.

Wonderful shot Toph! I've always enjoyed this photo.

Tom, this is quite the face. The light is a bit harsh for my taste (hard to control when you're riding a yak across Tibet or wherever this was), but ohmigod what a face...what a life you've caught here. Quite remarkable.
As an aside, this theme (In Your Face) has the tagline "Self Portraits with Edge" which I, too, missed the first time I uploaded a shot. Unless I'm totally missing something, "Tom Carter" ain't the name of the woman in the image ;-)
Andeton added a critique 1 year ago:
greath face ! but also for me the sun light is to agressive and the level of the photo is above the eyes, i guess the old lady is not tall.
tomcarter (Tom Carter) said 1 year ago:
Thank you all for the comments. I am sorry I didn't know these were self-portraits only; should I remove the image?
About the photo itself, the sunlight in Tibet is a real doozy; it's so harsh that many images come out pure black. Other times they are all washed out like this one; I tried my best.

amazing... just amazing.

Wow. Wonderful.
I do have to agree about the comment about the placement of the green leaf. I think it would make more of a statement if it was closer to one of the sweet spots - probably the upper right.
Love the colors and the bubbles! :)

Great expression!
The cigarette on the other hand stands out too much.
arnoldlozano (Arnold Lozano) added a critique 1 year ago:
i don't think it is too dark. the extreme contrast gives your photo a very strong mood. the subject itself is also very intriguing.
Topher (Christopher Mueller) added a critique 1 year ago:
Fantastic contrast Luca. Love the dark, greasy feel to it. Composition is the only issue here. Just a little to the left to see the whole cigarette, but not too far so we can still see the back of the bench. Love this shot.
tristantrc added a critique 1 year ago:
i just wish the cigarette was in the shot. good emotion though.
Sonoma added a critique 11 months ago:
I think it should seem dark, it adds to the overall mood of the picture. Nice shot!

what a face! I'd also like to see a bit more of her hair, but it's an impressive portrait.

Worn minds in contrasty bw, it always works, isn't it? The task is to show this mind through the skin, and you did a great work here. Great shot.

Eyeseethings added a critique 1 year ago:
Yeah . The hair over the eye gives her a mysterious look . Stranges but the grainy effect adds to the picture and makes it feel more raw ! ...I like this lots
xavtek (Xavier Rotivel) said 1 year ago:
Thanks everyone for your inputs, mostly the thing i felt strange about was the left eye hidden behind hair.
But as manickavelu said, it adds to the mystery, so i guess it's ok.
jsmanseau added a critique 1 year ago:
I agree great composition and I like the "mystery" Great job.
xavtek (Xavier Rotivel) said 1 year ago:
no mystery here, she's playing on her computer ;)
It is ideal, isn't it?
I love all bout this!
Great job.
