Love the saturation Jen. Really well framed too - congrats on the feature! Hey, I see a spot on the horizon - clean your lens! ;)

bit of a glare off the lens it seems...although i am new :)
I like the piture though...great composotion
mikko (Mikko Huotari) added a critique 1 year ago:
very nice color. it's not sharp enough, i think
gazdi (Csaba Bobák) added a critique 1 year ago:
I like the glare, it actualy adds to the sunset feeling. The picture itself, however, well, not more than another centered sunset shot. Even not with the boat siluette. A different angle would help.
Topher (Christopher Mueller) added a critique 1 year ago:
I agree - a different angle would have been great. The timing, the light, the focus... all seem great to me, but the centered sunset makes the pic too cliche.

I don't know why, but this picture makes me smile. :)

very nice-very minimalist!
dcrphotography (Daniel) added a critique 1 year ago:
I think it needs more contrast and light.
cheguillaume (Pierre-Yves cheguillaume) added a critique 1 year ago:
I don't know why it has not been featured yet. It's really nice
Topher (Christopher Mueller) added a critique 1 year ago:
I think this should go in the solitude category, Jen ;) (poor little kelp bulb...) I agree that contrast and light would help, but mostly I appreciate that you took the time to notice this and frame it nicely. I love the little dimple caught in the sand. Almost makes it look like it's moving. There's so little and so much that could be said about this pic.

I saw the original image in colour; it looks better than B&W to me.

Thank you all for your comments. I had lived in Beijing a few years back for a little more than three months and have spent some time also in the Philippines.

congrats on your first feature Jenny, well deserved!
boughey (Adrian Boughey) added a critique 1 year ago:
Very thought provoking. I like it a lot. It doesn't really spoil the image that the verticals are not ...erm ...vertical, but watch out next time. Well done!

wow-thats great-a suggestion (not that you asked for it)-but i think the image would be more powerful if it was cropped at the top! Well done

The tones are absolutely perfect. This is really very pretty. I like the crop because of the lace in the gown.
duncmc (Duncan McMillan) added a critique 1 year ago:
Very pretty image. I also like the lace detail on the dress. I would be tempted to burn in the shadow areas of the bouquet, just to give a bit more contrast to the flower details. Getting really picky maybe the green flower stems (top left) are a little distracting.
dontbrandme (S) added a critique 1 year ago:
Not a critique, but my bouquet is going to look something similar to that but I'm having creamy colored hydrangea as the main flower in it and the rosey/creamy roses strewn about with the stephanotis! 4 months, I'm excited can't you tell? ;)

very nice picture-maybe needs to be cropped to make it more centered-but very nice!
Eyeseethings added a critique 1 year ago:
I dont think this really shows a shallow DOF as the subject is only on 1 plabe so no depth is obvious . Well exposed though

Thank you for your comments. This is Manila, Philippines. I was there earlier this month. It makes me sad too, in one day we saw the city, the "Beverly Hills" and also the squatting area. Talk about an eye opening and humbling experience to see all three in a day.
doilyboy (Martin Grey Gottlieb) added a critique 1 year ago:
I like the image but would love to see it cropped a bit tighter, something to emphasize the 'have-nots' juxtaposed against the 'haves'. I know thatwould limit the nice reflection and the water a little but it would strengthen the statement maybe??
chaba (David Chabashvili) added a critique 1 year ago:
good shot! the reflection is very nice! one thing I would like to note is to process the sky little more - emphisize the coulds, little bit of contrast and color correction..good work!
cheguillaume (Pierre-Yves cheguillaume) added a critique 1 year ago:
Sometimes, photography is a troublemaker. This one is a good one and show us the contrasted way of living in the same city.
Paulforrester (Paul Forrester) added a critique 1 year ago:
a great photo-any photo that evokes an emotional response such as this is a good one
I really like this...
