This just misses (for me) being a great shot - the hands are cropped so tightly that it becomes a bit of a distraction. I see that you have balanced this by cropping the hat at the top - good thinking, to be sure. DOF and lighting are suberb - it's a little noisy, but it fits the shot. I love this one.
Best,
Jon

I'm glad this was featured! Every time it came up in the ratings, I wished I had a cookie.

Just seems so human... almost wise. Maybe I'm anthropomorphizing, but nonetheless it's a great portrait. I love dogs.

i love the emotion the dog is giving in this moment, great work Carl...

I like this composition. The old man's face is very expressive. Good interaction with the man in the back.

I think for this shot to have any real impact there is too much going on around the focused tree, and I also think you're maybe too zoomed out. Aside from that I think you've got the nice muted tones for it and a good black for the silhouette.
lbstone (Brandon Stone) added a critique 1 year ago:
To me this image is very simple and elegant. I can definitely understand why you wanted all that sky in there... It creates a lot of negative space for the little tree to live and I think that adds to the impact of the image.
I would like to see the tree a little bit more to the right... or either dead-center. At this point it's living just off-center and that makes my brain feel a little uneasy.
Other than that, though, I think you've done a great job here. I like the deep, strong blacks and also the tones in the clouds to the left.
THISMUG (Jeremy Yontz) added a critique 1 year ago:
Agree with lbstone - great job with blacks, I like the silhouette
It might have more of an impact cropped vertically and off center just a tad.

Nice shot, but too centered, I think. Wonderful light and atmosphere you have captured.
Best,
Jon

I actually like the tree in the middle. My eyes are more attracted to the "waviness" of the ground, and the tree becomes more secondary.

It's a great photo of what we see on a rainy day and we don't really want to go outside.
I like it, and if it's a photo from within your home, I'd suggest that you keep it to remember that place and that day.
lbstone (Brandon Stone) added a critique 1 year ago:
I think the little spots of red are what make this photo work... They fit nicely against the dark tones.
In respect to what Uncommondepth said, I agree that this image communicates a lonely sort of feel, but the red somehow adds a dash of optimism to that.
I'm not usually into photos of rain and flowers, but I like this. ;)

I like this image, it is vibrant and well executed; as you said, it is a bit cliché, but sometimes it is nice just to appreciate an image for what it is.
mikeock (Mike Adams) added a critique 1 year ago:
Very well executed.
You have a very good backdrop behind your window to achieve these results.

This is such a great shot - the red is wonderful here and really lifts this one out of the realm of the ordinary - very intriguing effect.
Best,
Jon

Normally I would think the tone mapping (i presume?) was a bit too much, but with this subject I think it works really well..
Love the view and angle here..
bluesforshoes (Jeremiah Gilbert) added a critique 1 year ago:
Wonderful angle. I agree with Brandon that it might be a little too over-processed, or at least looks like it. Also, it's a bit too much of the same grey for me. That said, it still is a striking photo.

Very cool shot, nice clearity and colour. Good DOF.

Through its unreality, this shot conveys something of the magic of the game of baseball - very special image!

I love the colors, and the darkness doesn't bother me so much. Though I wish the darkness was broken somehow. As it is, it really slices the composition in two.

Very nice landscape, but I feel it would fit better in a different category. Or not?
Great shot in any case.
