I love the contrast of emotion. You move from the girl with her emotional intensity to a beautiful quiet street scene in the back that is nicely blurred. Great shot!

I think this one would work great in urban art too!
I love the colors and how i feel like i am walking down this street. Where was this taken?

rvercesi (Ricardo Vercesi) said 1 year ago:

This was taken in Lisbon at Bairro Alto. It is a neighborhood known for its nightlife and culturally very active, with art schools, bars, shops, restaurants and discos. Hence the puzzle of posters on the wall.

Thank you all.

Sorry, this is not really abstract at all, IMO. It's a "stylized" shot of trees. I don't wonder for a moment what this is, if I wonder about anything it's way you treated this in this manner. I'm not saying it's a bad treatment, I'm only saying where the mystery lies for me.

pageextent (matt mangan) said 1 year ago:

Thanks for you comment. You're right it's not a really abstract version, maybe I should have put it in a different category, it reminded more of trees after the apocolypse or trees on the moon. I was playing with overexposure and this was the best of many white shots :-)
thx

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 10 months ago:

Doesn't work as an abstract, but with a little cropping and some straightening, it might work in a different context.

Best,
Jon

I love the streaming light through the trees in the bottom left of frame. Also, the definite line of clouds at the top seem to balance the dark base, and this dark area does give up reasonable detail in my view. I also agree about the b&w, but I tend to bias it over colour.

pageextent (matt mangan) said 1 year ago:

Thx for you comments, I'll try converting this to b&w and see what happens. What I loved about this shot is the light golden tones in the middle, but for the web version they don't really stand out. I think I'll try a couple different versions and see what happens.
thx again

jasonkravitz (Jason Kravitz) added a critique 1 year ago:

maybe you can desaturate the sky but leave the golden tones in the center - could be an interesting effect.

RachelValley (Rachel Valley) added a critique 11 months ago:

Really great fog capture...too bad there was not some more fog creeping in on the foreground to give a muddled perspective...but that of course is beyond your control..

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 10 months ago:

Potentially a great shot. Needs some cropping on top and bottom, in my opinion. Would make a great black and white with some added contrast.

Best,
Jon

I love the light-dark-light composition, and the lines leading you into the picture are perfect. Well done.

Black and white really capture this picture. I am trying to figure out the image on the bottom though.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:

Very powerful, very nice. I love this one. One very small comment: go ahead and crop out the thin black edge at the bottom.

Nice picture.
The subject stands out nicely due to a good DOF and a good sharpeness of the man and poll. The pink color of the poll helps the foreground to stand out. And looking at the expression of the man, we feel like an observer and not intruisive.
:)

Great!!!! Bravo on picking this subject! So shows his personality...tough!

aloha_photo (Jeff Sisemoore) added a critique 1 year ago:

Well done, Beamer. Nice use of DoF. His bland expression contrasts so well with the "Love Jesus" graffiti.

klear added a critique 1 year ago:

What a great subject - beautiful job with the DOF and sharpness!

Great leaf, great shot. I like the framing. The only part that pulls my eye a little is the bright reflection in the lower left and worse the upper center. I would probably have pulled all these refections down in value.

Laurie (Laurie) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like the composition and the dreamy dappled light reflecting in the puddle is beautiful. I do wish the leaf was sharper for it's entirety. The DOF is a bit narrow.

hampshire added a critique 1 year ago:

How beautiful and it makes me feel so sad to know its demise. Great shot.

pageextent (matt mangan) added a critique 1 year ago:

Love the composition! like others said I would just minimize the reflection a bit...I would still leave some in there because it adds a nice touch, but just take a little edge off.

Great composition and excellent eye for using the umbrella....the umbrella looks like a muted sun...absolutely perfect!

matt

Ludimaginary (Richard Vantielcke) added a critique 1 year ago:

Nice effect with the sun through the umbrella.
Great colors.

aloha_photo (Jeff Sisemoore) added a critique 1 year ago:

Wonderful colors and controled use of light, Clyde. If there were such an award as "Best use of an umbrella" this image would have walked away with it.

I didn't see the little head either...it was overpowered by the light and sky.

First rate.

streulicht (saara) added a critique 11 months ago:

the umbrella is amazing.
I think it could be also very nice when you try to crop it 6x6.

The colors are just --- yumi.
Very professional

This is a beautiful shot! The only thing I can see to change would be the small white spot on the dark area on the neck. I think its a little distracting and could be cloned out. What a great shot though, I love it!

CouCou33 (Ingrid) added a critique 1 year ago:

beautiful picture !
the dof is perfect, the colors are on the spot.
I even like the fact that it's centered and not on one or the other side, because of its face being titled.
great job !

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:

Majestic pose, majestic animal. The eye is beautiful and compelling. I see 2 things to critique:

The highlights are blown a bit especially on the top of the head, you are losing all detail there.

The composition is not right for this shot. You have allowed nice room on the left of frame for the eyeline to flow, but way too much behind the head and a bit too much on the top. By showing this much negative space you diminish the impact overall and by having this amount of negative space behind the head you really disturb the flow that the strong pose and eyeline of the subject tries to create.

remirol (Andy Lorimer) added a critique 10 months ago:

Just a great great shot!!! clear and the spirit of the eagle is so evident. keep the shutter going:)
