Great shot! I like composition to this picture. You might want to try a black and white version of this photo, I think it would be very powerful with all the lines and lighting. Just my 1 1/2 cents.

that's it.. I either have to move someplace cooler.. or take a lot of trips. This is great!! I see what Matt is saying about black and white, but I also love the dull coloration that you have going on.
well done

I like the composition, but the first street light has been cut on its "downside" (sorry, i'm not very sure this to be well written).
The lightning is superb!
I like this pic, and maybe in B+W this could be spectacular! :D
aloha_photo (Jeff Sisemoore) added a critique 1 year ago:
I like the buildings, the processing, the lights, in fact virtually everything about this photo. Well done IMHO.
Sonoma added a critique 1 year ago:
I also like the lighting. Nice shot.

shallow DOF with all of the lines leading us to the center really makes this image work. awesome, I don't think I would change anything.
pageextent (matt mangan) added a critique 1 year ago:
Perfect picture for a photography assignment about line and shape. Perfectly captured, great job!

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 1 year ago:
Sorry, Maria, the DoF really doesn't work for me, because I am barely aware that anything is in focus. This could be really nice if there was an obvious are of well illuminated and in focus foreground and the person and sky area were out of DoF. This just looks soft everywhere. The only part that appears to be in focus in a very small area of the handrail about 1/3 of the way up the image.

I've seen your website and I like your photos. Congratulations.

I like the small DOF, really good made.

For me, this image is lacking impact. I think the subject is a really good one, but the overblown sky and the lack of subject direction cause the eye to wander and search out meaning. I would like to have seen this taken when the sun was rising or setting and shining off of the building facade.

La foto está tomada en Girona, son las casas que estan situadas sobre el rio Onyar que atraviesa la ciudad.

@Neuner
I agree, but the day was cloudy and could not do anything else.
Thank you for your criticism.
pageextent (matt mangan) added a critique 1 year ago:
Nice composition, but like you said, what can you do on a cloudy day. It's amazing how different a shot can be in different light. If you have the time you may want to try a bit of photoshop magic to give the picture that 'pop'.

I love the way the curves take your eyes around the entire picture. Would have like to see it clearer, but perhaps with the weather the way it was, that's ok.
Eye_See added a critique 1 year ago:
I like the way the curve leads the eye into the picture. Color could be pumped up somewhat.

if you startle a tortoise by picking it up, it loses it's water reserves which is almost certainly fatal in dry spells like they're having this year.
so we were careful to look and not touch.
this was the second of two tortoises we saw during our mojave desert trip this summer.
he was set on crossing the road so we stood back and ensured that cars would see us and slow down.
thanks for the comments :)

What a perfect shot! I love the composition - the turtle is perfectly placed, the DOF, and the yellow line leading you into the shot. Excellent job!

This is a photo that I had up a couple of weeks ago, but it had way too much pink in it and the bench was crooked. Hope this one is a bit better. Thanks to Beamer for his helpful insight.
For me, there is still something with the light in this photo (the original is completely yellow because of the street light), but I've been looking at too long to figure something out. Any ideas are welcomed.

I like it. It is interesting to me. I am drawn to the shape of the tree. Nicely done.
daldao added a critique 1 year ago:
I have only one question. The light on the left side. It´s too bright and distracts my eye of the tree.
Anyway, i like a lot.
Congrats
Jessa added a critique 1 year ago:
Matt I love this picture
The only thing I could think of was maybe to clone out that awkward branch jutting out of the front of the tree in the upper left hand corner.. maybe not even all of it. But I don't know if that would make any real difference. Great job!
pageextent (matt mangan) said 1 year ago:
Funny, I never noticed that branch until you mentioned it and now I can't stop looking at it :-)
Thx everyone.

What an interesting perspective and composition. I only wish the bottom 10% of the frame was in focus.

The only thing I can criticize is the horizon (not horizontal).

I agree with Gary. My first thought was that the cars must be parked with their headlights on as they are not blurred or streaked. Given the low light available a slow shutter might be implied. Nicely done.
Now I know I'm being finicky, but I think I would have cloned out the white speck just above the vapor trail...even if it happens to be a crescent moon. It's not distinctive enough IMHO and competes unfavorably with the vapor trail (which I like).
Nice gradations of color from the darker blues at the top of the frame down to the orange colors at the horizon.
pageextent (matt mangan) added a critique 1 year ago:
This is a great shot!...but I can't decide what to look at, the tree captures my eye right away, then the sunset, but I do find the cars distracting. Just my 2 cents. But very nice colours.
matt
pouhou (Tony LUJIEN) said 1 year ago:
thanks for the comments
the cars are the reason why a asked for constructive feedback. I can't decide to leave or erase them. On one side they give depth to the image, on the other side they can be distractive. By the way, the picture is a blending exposure of two (to get light in the grass). There was only one car that now appears twice.
Thanks again
Sonoma added a critique 1 year ago:
I love this. The colors are great, but if you're really looking, there are cool details in the bottom.Like the road, cars and sunset.
turkana (César) added a critique 1 year ago:
The cars, the river, the grat tree and the sunset. There are four highlights. My two eyes move between one ant he others and don'tknow where stop.
The photo is good. The problem, in my opinion, is that there are very beautiful items in the picture.
I'd left the tree in the right, but then te cars and the water reflections would be out.
Ok, them I crop and thne tree is in the left closing the scene. No, then you have lost the sunset.
Difficoult question.
The strenth of the great tree silhouette is clear.
So....
Anyway. Very beautuful landscape!!!

Beautiful capture of a grasshopper. The only thing I find is that the yellows are a bit blown out. But still a very nice macro shot.

Excellent range of tones and good drama in the clouds. I like the processing a lot. Good work, Beamer.
