it is a good angle but the picture would have more impact if you wouldve used a longer exposure.
grahambo (Graham Siebe) added a critique 9 months ago:
I agree. A longer exposure would be good. There isn't enough light to tell exactly what I'm looking at.

that day i only used a compact and i did not had the choice to change the speed of it

Sabiendo la historia de la toma debo añadir que hay algo en la parte derecha abajo que corta el reflejo y distrae.

I like the reflection, but with for more detail on the other side of the water.

Beyond the focus issue, I also think that the lighting of the boat is a little too dark. The figures in the boat are hard to make out.
photoaholic (Geoffrey Reynertz) said 9 months ago:
Thomas thanks for your comment, jimi, as thomas has said, a speedboat does not have the habit to wait you for the shot but perhaps next time i'll ask the boat to come with me in my studio and let me the time to change the lighting :-)
crahan (Thomas Bouve) added a critique 9 months ago:
@Geoffrey: you made me chuckle at that studio remark :). Still, there are of course a few things you can keep in mind if you ever have the opportunity to shoot an action scene like this again.
I'd say crank up the shutterspeed quite a bit. I'm not sure what speed you used here, but I'd personally increase it by quite a bit. You can always compensate with your aperture and/or ISO if needed.
What shutter speed was this shot at exactly, Geoffrey?

thomas, i can't answer you question, for this shot i used a compact (HP photosmart), this photocamera is very basic and nearly full automatic...
crahan (Thomas Bouve) added a critique 9 months ago:
Well then I can only compliment you on this photo Geoffrey. If you shot this using a compact camera on automatic mode you've kept the motion blur within bounds quite well.

Geo,
This is a nice effort, but still just a little soft - what lens are shooting with? Nice colors and good composition - I like the dof, but the lack of sharpness takes away...
Best,
Jon

this shot was taken some years ago with a canon ixus 400 (a compact) so i can not tell a lot about the lens i used...

My son (4) can't figure out why he only has one leg. Too funny! Nice shot.

Geo,
Oh! for just a little more sharpness...I would have cleaned up the foreground - it's a little messy, and cropped it more tightly - nice effort overall, however.
Best,
Jon

Interesting image, I like it - I like the engaging lines made by the path and continuation with open sky, really draws you in the image. The forest on both sides adds mystery.the b&w is fine.
I think Nick's recommendation regarding the crop is great !
like opening a wider door in your image..
pfeel (Phil Verges) added a critique 9 months ago:
I like it! B&W was definitely the right choice here, it makes much more graphic impact. And I agree with Nick, I would crop it higher also.
crahan (Thomas Bouve) added a critique 9 months ago:
I agree with Nick with regard to the higher crop. If you crop it so the path appears to go on outside of the image it would be better.
Also try to clone out the little branch in the sky. With those two edits I think you would have a perfect image. The sky and the path complement each other perfectly. Good composition though and nice black and white conversion!

selaux (Sarah) added a critique 9 months ago:
i disagree with the crop idea. I think that letting me see the start of the path makes me even more curious to see where and how far it goes. I feel like its a metaphor for the start of a great journey and i dont know where it is taking me or how long it will last. B&W is very effective. Nice work.
grahambo (Graham Siebe) added a critique 9 months ago:
I agree with Nick too. The little bit of dirt at the bottom draws my eye out of the picture.
It might be interesting to crop it down so the horizon is in the middle of the photo. It would put more emphasis on the lines going to infinity.

Saludos.

Very interesting scene. The characters and the atmosphere is something I hope you get the chance to shot again.
Awesome.

first thing i think of is an ad for WI :) but after that I notice the strong vertical and horizontal lines in the fence, the nice colors and all the great textures. Nice shot.
boyd added a critique 9 months ago:
I like the way the cow on the left completes the cow on the right. I agree with Sarah about the textures, but I would have preferred more sharpness to the shot overall, but particularly the cow on the right.

I'm a fan of "everyday" photography - with little post processing. So, I like this - aesthetically and philosophically.

I tihnk you cropped it to tight, i wanna see more to the bottom. Or make it tighter, focusing on the ropes. And i need the pure blue for the sky :)
photoaholic (Geoffrey Reynertz) said 9 months ago:
in fact i did not have the choice to crop it differently i was on that boat only with a compact camera and no wide angle...

The moonlight reflected on the water is the real star (oops, sorry for the bad pun) of this shot. On my monitor the foreground looks like it has an odd yellow colour cast and is a little too soft. I am wondering if this would benefit from conversion to black & white or whether the whole composition should have been turned portrait with a greater focus on the moonlight and the lamp post. Nevertheless, very interesting shot.

Geo,
Just a little soft in the foreground - spectacular idea, however. I might have left just a little more room at the top. Good effort!
Best,
Jon
This doesn't say much to me, but your colors and light are nice, and the comp. is okay, although a little static.
Best,
Jon
