1. Great !
2. Whaoooooow !
3. Maybe more light on the name ?
4. I love it ! héhéhé

prometheus (Thomas) said 1 year ago:

Really great, did you ever try it in a square format. I think this tall format is too agitated and don't fit to the quite mood of the picture

gazdi (Csaba Bobák) said 1 year ago:

Thank you all.
@aldamir: I was thinking about the label and thought it would be nice to have it as soft as the whole pic.
@prometheus: I tried to use as conservative technique as possible, this means a long crop that emphasizes the simple paralel shapes of the bottle and its neck. With a different lighting, a square crop would also work well, thanks.

Hope you enjoyed the content to the last drop :D

(Never seen "othello" spelt this bad :DDD)

gazdi (Csaba Bobák) said 1 year ago:

No, I didn't even open it, I prefer the original Hungarian othello. And that answers your second sentence as well. ;)

too much gray for me
nice idea

prometheus (Thomas) added a critique 1 year ago:

I would prefer the picture more space in the direction of the view of the person, the person 1/3 of the right could make it with more tension.
And it needs a lot more of contrast

chromaticmelody (Dhiren Bhatia) said 1 year ago:

All very good comments, thank you. On my copy I have fixed the contrast to decent levels. As for the view that is a very good point, I have another image where the subject is facing straight out, I will try to make that one work.

Sher (Sher Hilliard) added a critique 1 year ago:

I agree with the others - a bit dark. Having the subject more to the left bottom with more of his view to the right. Maybe a bit more detail of his head as well - it almost begins to blend in with the clouds above. The setting and the idea are great.

byutanner (Jason Tanner) added a critique 1 year ago:

I don't mind the darker exposure for the theme. I'd crop some of the top and put the person to the left to see the nothing he's seeing... Good image though.

matt_e (Matt Eddey) added a critique 1 year ago:

I really dig it. The sharpness (or lack thereof) is not an issue for me - it conveys the idea and the feeling of speed better than it would had the car been sharp. Good work. Personally, I'm not a fan of crazy dutch tilts, but even that works pretty well here

pavankvn added a critique 1 year ago:

I like this shot as it conveys the sense of speed/motion well.

guffy (Stefan Karlstrom) added a critique 1 year ago:

I really like the idea. But I think that the camera needs to be mounted onto the car better so the car will be sharp and in focus. Now the car and the background are almost blurred in the same way.

prometheus (Thomas) added a critique 1 year ago:

Really good idea. I agree to pavankvn. But in my opinion it should be turned to the right position and of course the car should be sharp

Topher (Christopher Mueller) added a critique 1 year ago:

More than anything - I can appreciate how this is rotated, but wish it was a little more clockwise. I don't mind the blur; actually feel like it adds to the shot. Might even like to see it saturated a little more so it's even more striking.

Info: I do not know this man, but he seems to have such an amazing spirit and drive for life. This was taken in Portland, Oregon near Northwest 23rd. This man, who is homless, stands outside of Trader Joes's every day of the week trying to get people to buy and support a newspaper that is run by the homeless community. Every day he is outside of the store smiling ear to ear trying to make money for the newspaper. He looks so proud in this picture which is what I really love about it. Not the best picture composition wise or anything, but it's the story behind the picture that really gets me everytime.

prometheus (Thomas) said 1 year ago:

I like the view and cut, it is something different.
In the first moment I thought it was a bavarian. The guy loks like a typical bavarian. We have some of these in germany, you know :-)

dontbrandme (S) said 1 year ago:

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate being on the front page! I love this image/spirit of the homeless man soooo much.

I find this photo very moving, the tight crop and fine detail really help to express the emotion. Beautiful.

Excellent, you can feel the hard days gone by.

dcuthbert (Daniel Cuthbert) said 1 year ago:

I've always felt that photographing old people always brings out more in the image. They have seen much more than most of us and that shows in their face.

Brilliant portrait and i love the tones!

Tanja (Tanja Dueck) said 1 year ago:

Is this inspired by Mapplethorpe?

prometheus (Thomas) said 1 year ago:

Yes, it is. I'm a great fan of Robert Mapplethorpe. But this is no self-portrait.
