For me, that's about 1.5 hours too much, sorry but, honest. This looks way over processed to me. I will ask a respectful, but curious question: what do you think this amount of processing brings to this otherwise, wonderful capture? This is a great subject and a great moment, just wish it were more straight forward. I'd rather spend time looking at the scene rather than the effect. Just calls too much attention to itself, IMO.
refocus (andy kämpf) said 5 months ago:
I disagree with you Beamer. It's not important how long you need to get result that fits your imagination. So for me always the subject is the most important thing either the PP-Work. Anyway it can take 15 minutes or 3 hours to get the result you like. there is no comparison how long you should take to get finished with your picture..

This shot looks very over=processed. The first thing I thought when I saw the photo on the featured page was "that halo is totally obvious."
Now, if you meant for the halo to be all around him and his cigar, then you were successful in your processing.
His eyes and face look nice, but the blur and halo around him is very distracting and unappealing.
I'd love to see this 'out of camera' and try and see what you were going for.

whats the problem? i dont have posted this photo for detailed critique....
so "i dont mean nothing at all" i just take pictures...
so everyone has his taste - i don't mind.

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 5 months ago:
Andy, obviously, my comments were not really about how long it took, but what was the value of the result. But I suppose that was lost on you, so I'll try again:
I ask a respectful, but curious question: how do you think this processing enhances what is an otherwise, wonderful capture? It's hard to imagine that you could look at this capture and think it needs much, if any post-processing. That is probably a bit of a supposition because I obviously have not seen the original file.
Ana (Ana Cortez) said 5 months ago:
I ask a respectful but curious question also....
If you didn't ask for a "detailed critique" what is it you are looking for? Would you like everyone to say, "Great processing" even if they don't feel that way?
Or should the folks that don't agree it's perfect in all areas, not say anything, unless a critique is requested?
refocus (andy kämpf) said 5 months ago:
@Ana
I'm always open for critique in any case.
PP is always a matter of taste.
Personally the photo + PP works here and focus the subject.
If you see this different, than this is your honest opinion.
Anyway - it's featured... :)

@Beamer
i will not post any "out of the cam" - version of this picture...makes no sense to me. It's finished how it is and as already said for me the PP works it focus the subject and I'm very happy with it.

I am very surprised by the comments above, when the "art concept" and "open-minded attitude" have recently been discussed so long regarding nudes pics.
Please, just say that you do not like it, but I do not understand the debate about the "need" for PP or not.
Would anybody critique Picasso's vision today ?... Would anybody critique Dali's work ?... Why should things always look like the exact reality in an artistic work ?
Ana (Ana Cortez) said 5 months ago:
Oh yes, it's featured!!
ON VAZAAR!!
That means WAY more than actual feedback!!
Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 5 months ago:
@Martine, I wasn't asking why he used PP, just why in this particular case, where the capture seems so brilliant, that he chose this approach to processing, but it seems to have generated a whole emotional response/conversation and an practical answer to my question now seems impossible.
@Andy, I clearly got the fact that you liked this PP approach from the mere fact that you posted it. As for you explanation that the processing focus the subject, well, this subject focuses itself just by his expression and the wonderful nature of his face and the brilliance of the moment. And, IMO, it seems that the PP detracts from that focus not enhances. I would never ask you to post the original. I just am trying to pull out of you what you thought was lacking in the original that this PP brings out or "fixes"??? Please don't take my questions/comments personally, remember this is a discussion about art, there's always going to be disagreement.
Anyway, cheers everyone!!

please stop the emotional discussion....
it's not worth at all. It's just a photo..
:)
have a nice weekend!

Once again, an impressive processing. You just play with light and darkness in a stunning way. Great work !
