Wow, I didn't think anyone would pick up on that - you were actually looking!

Cheers and thanks!

Don't need a window, that's what it looks like thru my glasses most day when it rains. Nice job Jon!!

Clyde,

Thanks! Very funny:-)

Ana (Ana Cortez) added a critique 8 months ago:

I actually like the flares at the top, but I am almost compelled to suggest cropping at the roof line, so none of the sky shows.
Not sure, though.
Aside from that, I think this really matches the theme, and I love how solitary he seems.

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) said 8 months ago:

Ana,

Thanks for your thoughts on this one - I think cropping at the roof line is not a bad idea, and would add some drama to the shot.

I personally like this, however, I can see how others may not feel the same way. It is very manipulated and stylized, hence why it is under the topic photmanipulation. When working with the image, I could not think of a better way to capture and emphasize the subject. I just like the grunge and the color. Otherwise it just felt like a snapshot that many other tourist have most likely taken when walking by. I would love to hear what others think? Too dark? Too shadowy? Too everything?

selaux (Sarah) said 8 months ago:

Love the grime and the color. Also the backdrop is perfect. Dont think it's TOO anything!

ErikUnger (Erik Unger) said 8 months ago:

Thanks. I've had mixed reports about it. Some people don't know what it is when first looking at it. It's a fog sculpture from a local garden.

Very creepy. Perhaps a bit more contrast would make the shot more effective. Nice composition

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) added a critique 8 months ago:

Creepy subject, very interesting and imaginative camera angle. The exposure is blown out and the composition is cramped on the right.

jorgelopez (Jorge López) added a critique 8 months ago:

UUUAAAAUUUU Great!!! I´m sure thre´s a story behind it. Great!!!

guczo (Attila Balogh) added a critique 8 months ago:

Creepy.. I'd cut the top though down to the doll's forehead.

Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for the ideas!

A pesar de que me encanta la toma la encuentro un poco oscura quizá demasiada saturación. El color rojo es impactante.
Saludos

selaux (Sarah) added a critique 1 year ago:

wow, that color is intense!

turkana (César) added a critique 1 year ago:

A mí la saturación y el enorme contraste de los colores hacen que me guste mcuho esta foto.

Gran toma

narnold (Noah Arnold) added a critique 9 months ago:

I think the red may be a bit too itense...but it still is a great photo!

CouCou33 (Ingrid) added a critique 9 months ago:

Thanks for uploading the original :-)
It's crazy what one can do with post processing !
Nice job.
But I agree on the building and the red being too saturated.
It nicely fit the topic though ;-)

Soft and eerie. I like. He seems to be in the middle of saying something or like hes about to laugh. He has a look in his eyes.

kseniaC (ksenia) added a critique 1 year ago:

this photo really has a lot of feeling in it, its almost as if the picture is alive. Its a great shot, although i think it might be a little more effective with sharper focus. But the lighting is perfect! Overall a really great shot!

CyberCarsten (Carsten) added a critique 1 year ago:

A selfportrait full of expression. Works well in B&W, but I think the upper part of the face is really blown out (pure white) - too strong an effect I think.

Ludimaginary (Richard Vantielcke) added a critique 11 months ago:

Nice frame and composition but a bit too blurry I guess (the eyes for example)...

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 9 months ago:

Overexposed and out of focus - comp is interesting and good.

Best,
Jon

I agree with willie901. I think a darker background (a little bit) would work better, giving more importance to the cross.

But I like it! ;)

Awesome shot. I love this one. I don't think it's overdone, I bet it came out just as you had envisioned it. Nice job!

Pixim (Eric) added a critique 1 year ago:

Hello daldao, in all the cases, your subject is interesting. For me, I am obstructed by the over-exposure of the panels on the door. I think that behind the squares that could have been good. Concerning framing, I would have tried in the axis of the door with a little withdrawal (if that is possible…) I miss a little clearness for better emphasizing the matter. Many criticisms, it is often easier to say than to make… Greetings.

daldao said 1 year ago:

Actually i upload the wrong picture. This one was a test. In the other hand, original also has the panels of the door a little bit over exposed.
Thanks for your comment, i learned a lot.

selaux (Sarah) added a critique 1 year ago:

I love the dirtiness. Im a fan of this one. I do almost wish it were a little off center though. A different angle may add even more interest!

jvgphoto (jon van gilder) added a critique 10 months ago:

I agree with Sarah - it's very gritty and pretty at the same time. I also think Eric is right about the overexposed doors. All in all, however, - a fine shot.

Best,
jon

I love the contrast of emotion. You move from the girl with her emotional intensity to a beautiful quiet street scene in the back that is nicely blurred. Great shot!

I think this one would work great in urban art too!
I love the colors and how i feel like i am walking down this street. Where was this taken?

rvercesi (Ricardo Vercesi) said 1 year ago:

This was taken in Lisbon at Bairro Alto. It is a neighborhood known for its nightlife and culturally very active, with art schools, bars, shops, restaurants and discos. Hence the puzzle of posters on the wall.

rvercesi (Ricardo Vercesi) said 1 year ago:

Thank you all.
