there's a lot goin on here. I am loving backlighting these days. Those really fluid.. biomorphic lines connecting to I guess the telephone pole are particularly awesome, I could see that standing as it's own image. I do wish that pipe 1/2 way up the frame was in focus. Where'd you take this from, looks almost like from inside a air duct on the roof of some building

blaze883r (Fernando Bordallo) added a critique 1 year ago:

I don't know why, but this pic made me think about "Bladerunner"! I like this backlightning.

CodeRed (Cody Redmon) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like this, selaux. At first I thought the weight was a little off, but that's just because the content is framed within the picture itself...which is great too. I just 'recalibrated' my eye for a second and it's really nice...the heavy bottom-right corner helps the viewer be able to do this more easily, it makes for a balancing piece.. The industrial masking to a partly cloudy day...nice work.

boyd added a critique 1 year ago:

This is an interesting treatment of this subject and I have to agree that the use of backlighting here is particularly effective.

selaux (Sarah) said 1 year ago:

Jessa- it was actually a demolition site in Milwaukee. The site was my obsession for a few weeks until they tore the whole place down. This shot is through a whole in the building.

I have to agree that this is a very striking shot ... right down to the beautiful reflections in the bulb and its reflections. Well done.

Jessa said 1 year ago:

Thank you Eye_See and boyd.

My concern is maybe the grass and the wall of the fountain behind might be distracting. perhaps an all black background would be more effective, or maybe I've just looked at it too long.

selaux (Sarah) added a critique 1 year ago:

I didnt even notice the backround at first but once you mentioned it, I can see your concern. However, I think the wall in particular adds another interesting line.

Jessa said 1 year ago:

thanks selaux, I recently tried it all black and didn't like it so looks like the line stays. I appreciate the help

blaze883r (Fernando Bordallo) added a critique 1 year ago:

Lovely shot! The reflection is very sharp, and the "reflected reflection", too! XD

Beautiful colours, and textures. I like it very much.

There is a lot going on here but it works. I feel like I about to take off into the water on my yacht.(I wish) I like the sky light and the reflections.

marcouet52 (Mario Arcouette) added a critique 1 year ago:

I know are boring these take can be, but you did a good job, maybe a little curve adjustment

aloha_photo (Jeff Sisemoore) added a critique 1 year ago:

This image seems conjested to me (I've had the same problem when I've photographed boats in a harbor) and that makes it tough to find a focal point (my eyes rest on the water and reflections there.) The colors strike me as a bit flat. Perhaps some additional saturation would pull the blue out of the water and the hulls of the boats. (I don't mean to sound negative. I actually find the boats interesting, especially the one on the left, and the reflections are appealing too.)

Its simple but I like it. I like the fog and how you cant see where the road leads. Nice.

turkana (César) added a critique 1 year ago:

Me gustan mucho estas perspectivas de carreteras a ras de sueño.
La composición te conduce por la foto
Bien hecho!

willie_901 (william) added a critique 1 year ago:

What an interesting perspective and composition. I only wish the bottom 10% of the frame was in focus.

JaviNavarro (Javier Navarro) added a critique 1 year ago:

I like a lot.
The only thing I can criticize is the horizon (not horizontal).

Sonoma added a critique 1 year ago:

I agree, it's simple, but I like it too.

Pixim (Eric) added a critique 1 year ago:

Jessa hello. First of all, your photograph is difficult to take (too much variation of exposure), to make a success of, choose another hour of the day (if you can it…), to choose the exposed facade with the sun (so interesting…), or to use HDR technique (various exposures and then to join together them by software). The branch in front of attracts unnecessarily eye IMHO, a tighter framing could have helped you. In any case, this barn held your attention rightly. Good continuation.

turkana (César) added a critique 1 year ago:

very difficult time to take photos. The strong light doesn't help you. I miss more details in the cabin

Jessa said 1 year ago:

Pixm: thanks for the ideas, I've recently learned about HDR- seems like this one might be a good chance to experiment.

turkana: I agree I wish I had more details in the cabin

selaux (Sarah) added a critique 1 year ago:

I do strain a bit to see the barns detail. Very nice idea, just needs a bit more light.

Sonoma added a critique 1 year ago:

I love barn pictures, I have a few of my own. Very nice.

i like the composition. i don´t think green is distracting. Duck drives me to the green that is part of the picture.
I like it.

selaux (Sarah) added a critique 1 year ago:

This shot is facinating to me. I love that you cut off his head. Makes me focus on other details.

redcat77 (Agnes Milosz) added a critique 1 year ago:

It took me a few minutes to figure out what it is:) maybe this is what makes this photo so interesting!

Jessa said 1 year ago:

Thanks guys

Matt: I can't decide if I like the green or not either, I'll play with it.. thanks for the idea

I am a huge fan of everyday items being shot as celebrities. This is a beautiful photo. That small shadow at the end of the cup is my favorite.

Jessa added a critique 1 year ago:

it's a cup? I totally did not get that. Sealux is such a spoiler! :) The blue ridgey area is my favorite

Beamer (Clyde Beamer) said 1 year ago:

I shot this for the current Theme on WeeklyShot, called Color Thread. The idea that a color, here red, runs through your composition. This is Venice Beach, CA on a beautiful, warm November day, 1000's of people... Thanks again, for your time to comment.

koo88 added a critique 1 year ago:

Love Venice Beach. I really like how the tatoo sign is the focal point. Vivid colors make the photo pop. Kudos once again.

Laurie (Laurie) added a critique 1 year ago:

For me it's a little busy although the main focal point does definitely draw the eye. I do love that red color.

selaux (Sarah) added a critique 1 year ago:

I love the color. I agree that it is busy but i don't think that it takes away. The poeple in the shot may though...
All in all, I'm a fan of this one.

willie_901 (william) added a critique 1 year ago:

This is a nice exposure. The color seems a bit amped to me... rather unnatural. The guy on the left is a major distraction.

Wow, very creative! Very anxious to learn the trick :)

jaco (Adrien Fauconnet) said 2 years ago:

it's a 30 seconds exposure (f9 i think) with a model on the bike .. and a guy had a maglight and made the outline with it toward the camera. it's a very simple trick
